The inaugural “SOS Seafood Festival: Sustaining Our Seas” is coming to Half Moon Bay. Held at the Half Moon Bay Brewing Company, this event will honor Half Moon Bay’s fishing industry and world-class fishing fleet out of Pillar Point Harbor with a festival featuring fresh, sustainable seafood and other incredible edibles, craft beer, wine, cocktails, stellar all-day live music, ocean-inspired arts and crafts, plus ocean advocacy groups with exhibits and information on marine life, fisheries and sustainability. The event headliner, the SOS Seafood For Thought Chefs’ Pavilion, will include celebrity chef demos, talks on ocean warming and sustainability, the seafood chain, and the role of the restaurant industry and food-serving community in helping to shape the future of local seafood. Tickets to the SOS Seafood Festival will benefit Mavericks Coastside Foundation and the Cabrillo Education Foundation. Gray Whale Watching Cruise

Join the Greater Farallones National Marine Sanctuary and the Greater Farallones Association for an extra special chance to witness the peak of the mighty gray whale migration on a naturalist-led half-day cruise. This cruise will “join” the annual southbound migration of the gray whales through our marine sanctuaries as they travel from Arctic feeding grounds to Baja California breeding grounds. Learn about their natural history, their recovery from near extinction and the survival challenges posed by their roughly 10,000 mile round-trip journey. Plus, discover the natural history and adaptations of the seabirds, porpoises, seals and sea lions you encounter along the way. Cost is $55 per person; registration is required. Esteemed local photographer Diane Costello of Fog Dog Studios will be taking professional dog photos ($20) and $10 of every photo taken will be donated to Peninsula Humane Society. This daylong festival features family-friendly games and activities, native plants for your garden, nature walks, and Earth Day volunteer beach cleanup and restoration projects. Participants can also enjoy live music, local artists selling their work, and a food truck for a picnic lunch. For those looking to landscape their yards with drought tolerant plants, there will be opportunities to tour the state beach native plant nursery and gardens, seek advice from native plant specialists, and purchase plants to take home. Plus, Earth Day beach cleanups will be held at both Francis Beach (at the end of Kelly Avenue) and Dunes Beach (at the end of Young Avenue), with an Earth Day restoration project held at Dunes Beach. Admission to the festival is free, but there is a $10 fee for parking (Earth Day volunteers will receive free parking passes). Half Moon Bay’s spectacular showcase of motorized mechanical marvels from the 20th and 21st centuries celebrates its 26th anniversary with a mesmerizing array of more than 2,000 ultra cool antique, vintage, classic, custom and exotic machines on display for public viewing. Automobiles range from hot rods, dragsters, customs, low riders, imports, street machines and muscle cars to fanciful touring, luxury, and sports cars. View exceptional vintage warbirds, classics from the 40s and 50s and homebuilt aircraft, tricked out trucks and motorcycles, military tanks and vehicles. Enjoy a special display of vintage police cars, world-record streamliners, hydroplanes, model-T fire engines, SWAT vehicles, antique engines, tractors, helicopter and plane rides. Custom bicycles will be on display along with kinetic art, rolling sculptures, extreme toys, mega-modified machines, advanced “green” technology vehicles, jaw-dropping flyovers by historic military aircraft, monster truck rides, unimotorcycle drag races and dynojet dynamometer performance testing.
