You Fella You People - UFLA YUMPLA Fashion Performance

The sheer talent of northern Australia's Indigenous designers and textile artists will come to the fore in a high impact, culturally imbued fashion performance at this year's Cairns Indigenous Art Fair. Tickets to UFLA YUMPLA (You Fella You People) are now on sale for this special event that will be held at Cairns Cruise Liner Terminal on Friday 25 July from 8pm.

Choreographed by the rising star that is Torres Strait Islander fashion designer, Grace Lillian Lee, UFLA YUMPLA will be a performance in the truest sense of the word combining music and dance with cultural stories told in a series of fashion ready collections.

CIAF's CEO, Alison Copley said she is particularly excited about this event. “While art and fashion have always been intrinsically linked, it will be cultural connections to land and sea along with choreographed music and dance that will make UFLA YUMPLA a truly magical event.”

As a highlight of this year's CIAF program, UFLA YUMPLA has been modelled on last year's highly acclaimed inaugural performance by Grace Lillian Lee, UFLA UPLA at CIAF Presents. This year's event however raises the performance element to a whole new level when it is presented in the dramatic and spacious Shed 2 of Cairns Cruise Liner Terminal.

According to Grace Lillian Lee, CIAF is not a normal fashion show, it is a performance that embraces and celebrates the Australian Indigenous culture in a contemporary way.

“This year I am collaborating with Rita Price who is brilliant at movement. Rita will be mentoring the models. We are hoping to create a rich showcase that highlights the natural beauty of the women in Far north Queensland while shining the spotlight the talent in design which we have here. The performance is a beautiful way to encourage, inspire and take people on a journey of this new dialogue that we are sharing.”

This event is being held on Friday 25 July at Shed 2, Cairns Cruise Liner Terminal between 8pm and 10pm.

Tickets for UFLA YUMPLA are on sale now. Tickets $35 per person including welcome beverage and light pre show refreshments from www.ticketlink.com.au
