Good news, the Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour: Carmen has been so popular that two extra performances have been added. These will take place on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 April 2013.
I was fortunate to be a guest at one of the first performances and absolutely loved ever minute of it. I can thoroughly recommend it as a must see show in Sydney for all opera lovers and for those who have never been to an opera before. To see the previous article I wrote about the performance I saw click on http://theholidayandtravelmagazine.blogspot.com.au/2013/03/handa-opera-on-sydney-harbour-carmen.html
This brilliant production of Carmen, with its wonderful music, singing and dancing, captures all its Spanish atmosphere on stage. This sizzling show brings out the magic of Bizet's famous love story. The local and international cast of soloists and chorus backed by the live orchestra (located under the stage) produce wonderful music a delight to the ears.
The colorful costumes, the props lowered by cranes, and the fireworks all add to this production of Carmen.
Apart from the actual performance, the best thing about Carmen was its spectacular outdoor setting on Sydney Harbour under the stars. The action takes place on a large circular, sloping floating stage on the water, with the audience seated in tiered seating on land at the Fleet Steps, The Royal Botanical Garden. The backdrop of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Sydney Opera House and city buildings makes this performance of Carmen absolutely outstanding.
The remaining six performances of Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour: Carmen are on Tuesday 9 to Sunday 14 April. The gates open at 5pm, with the performances commencing at 7.30pm. For those who like to arrive early Spanish food is available to purchase on-site.
Carmen is presented by Opera Australia. Tickets prices start from $79 and can be purchased from TicketMaster on 1300 723 038 or online at www.operaonsydneyharbour.com.au
