New Direction for Club Med with the Launch of a Premium Year-Round Resort in Guilin, China

As part of Club Med's new direction in pioneering premium all-inclusive holidays, a new resort is set to launch in May 2013 at Guilin in China, offering Australian travellers the chance to discover the regions' breathtaking UNESCO World Heritage landscape.

Unlike other Club Med resorts, which traditionally offer a snow or beach experience, Club Med Guilin takes advantage of a pleasant year-round climate and idyllic rural setting, making it one of the most spectacular and revolutionary Club Med locations in the world.

Club Med Guilin is surrounded by rugged peaks and located within a 46-hectare park that is home to over 150 sculptures, created by internationally renowned artists. The resort will offer families and couples a unique all-inclusive experience that embraces adventure, culture and wellbeing, as well as the opportunity to explore Guilin's stunning mountains, rivers and authentic local culture.

Club Med Guilin

Occupying a former Relais & Chateaux site, Club Med Guilin is set within its own magnificent lakeside sculpture garden, showcasing giant artworks by more than 150 internationally renowned artists from 30 countries.

The 4-Trident resort, which was re-designed by leading interior designers Studio Hertrich & Adnet, offers 330 luxurious guestrooms across two distinctive hotel wings: the 284-room modern Courtyard hotel and a boutique Chateau hotel with 46 ultra-exclusive rooms. Rooms benefit from views of the central garden, sculptures and surrounding mountains.

The Guilin resort pioneers many new all-inclusive activities for Club Med resorts globally. There is a limestone cave to explore, plenty of outdoor sporting activities including hiking, bungee bounce and rock climbing, a 9-hole pitch and putt, and three swimming pools, including a peaceful adults-only Zen pool.

As part of their all-inclusive package, guests can enjoy three main meals, as well as snacks and an open bar at Club Med Guilin's restaurants and bars. Guests can sample authentic regional Chinese meals and international gourmet cuisine, prepared by a renowned local chef at the two main restaurants, one with a 360-degree of the overlooking landscape. For a more relaxed snack, the Noodle Bar is open throughout the day.

The resort features four bars - the Painting Lounge, Folk Songs House, Sculpture Garden and Roof Top Terrace - allowing guests to choose their desired ambience for a drink at any time during the day or evening. There is also nightly entertainment and themed parties.

Exploring the Guilin Province

Famed for its dramatic scenery of mountain peaks, rice terraces and meandering rivers, Guilin in the Guangxi Provence is recognised as one of the most beautiful natural landscapes in China. The Li River at Guilin was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site of natural and historical importance in 1996 and crowned the Best Holiday Resort Destination for Mountain and River Sightseeing by the World Tourism Organisation in 2003.

Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy excursions like rock climbing in the famous Karst Mountains or river fishing. For illuminating cultural experiences, guests can experience River Drifting on traditional bamboo rafts, visit local ethnic minority tribe villages, photograph the extraordinary Longji Rice Terraces and visit cultural sites like Reed Flute Cave and Elephant Trunk Hill. There is also the exceptional light and music show, 'Impression Sanjie Liu', a large-scale performance with over 600 actors and choreographed by Zhang Yimou, the director of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Opening Ceremony.

Dedicated to Wellbeing

Included in Club Med Guilin's premium all-inclusive package is a range of activities designed to inspire wellbeing and balance, such as Tai Chi, meditation and yoga. For an additional cost, guests can discover their inner creativity with art classes taught by resident artists and local professors. Classes include calligraphy, ceramics, printmaking, mosaics, Chinese ink painting and more.

Indulgent relaxation is available through the Club Med Spa by Comfort Zone, which offers a comprehensive treatment menu, including couples and family massages, reflexology, and access to a sauna and steam bath.

Premium family value and fun for all ages

Club Med Guilin offers dedicated activities and professional care by specialist staff, called GOs, for children aged 2-17. Each of the age-specific Clubs are inspired by a different aspect of local Guilin culture, and offer age-appropriate activities, from mini badminton to ethnic crafts and river fishing.

Club Med's premium all-inclusive packages include accommodation, three sumptuous meals per day, open bar and snacking service, Kid's Club (from 4 to 17 years), daily and evening entertainment, a wide range of sport and activities with specialised GOs, and airport transfers. Kids under 4 years stay, play and eat for free.

Getting There

Guilin is an easily accessible destination; just 45-minute drives from Guilin Liangjiang International Airport. The airport has direct flights from major cities across Mainland China, as well as Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Seoul and Kuala Lumpur.
