A key event on the Upper Hunter Calendar heralding the start of the Horse Festival and presenting the premier Stockman’s Challenge in NSW. The King of the Ranges will be held on 3rd - 5th May 2013 in Murrurundi, NSW Australia.
Inspired by tales of local 1930’s stockman Archie “Bung” McInnes (known as the “King of the “Ranges”) this event is a celebration of the traditional skills of Australian stockmen and women, showcasing the tasks they use daily in an intense competition consisting of cattle work, pack-horse, bareback obstacle, whip cracking, horse-shoeing and cross country jumping, to determine the top 10 scores over two days. These finalists have their courage and skill further tested on the third day when they must first catch and lead a wild horse and then ride a bucking horse, to find who is to be crowned the “King of the Ranges”
It is also a great Bush Festival featuring horse training, sulky driving, children’s goat racing, billy boiling, post splitting, traditional fun and competitions, bar, food & trade stalls, live music, bush poetry and much more. This is a wonderful family weekend to enjoy the history and traditional skills of the Australian bush in a beautiful setting at the foot of the Liverpool Ranges
