Timeless
carriages and a decent into the Blue Mountains rainforest either
steeper or softer than ever before, is part of the new $30 million
Scenic Railway experience at Scenic World.
The four
hand-built Swiss designed carriages for Scenic World allows passengers
to choose their own adventure with a 20 degree differentiation, from a
thrilling 'cliff hanger' to a softer laid back journey.
Already
the world's steepest incline railway, the iconic trip at 52 degrees can
now be taken between 44 and 64 degrees down to into the Jamison Valley.
The
new experience in the enclosed glass roof red carriages, means that
passengers can enjoy multiple train trips with each journey being
unique.
The redevelopment also includes a refurbished
track and two interactive platforms which feature a permanent historical
exhibition.
Overseeing the project are Joint Managing Directors, Anthea and her brother David Hammon.
Anthea,
also the project's Chief Engineer, and David said the new railway,
along with the Scenic Boardwalk, the Scenic Cableway and the Scenic
Skyway, meant the attraction was an all-day nature-based destination.
"This
redevelopment continues to honour the same depth of historical,
cultural and environmental respect that our family has provided for
three generations, but offers the visitor a fresh perspective that
inspires visitors to be immersed in a rainforest setting all day," they
said.
The track spans 415m through a cliff side tunnel and
through a ancient rainforest. The carriage takes 84 passengers and
operates every 10 minutes.
The new train will be the fifth
since Hammon's grandfather Harry took over the mining lease in 1945 and
converted the coal railway into a tourist attraction.
Australia's
most visited private tourist attraction is experienced by almost one
million visitors annually who also ride the highest skyway in Australia
at 270m, the biggest cable car in the country fitting 84 people, and
walk along the Scenic Walkway which is longest boardwalk in the Southern
Hemisphere spanning 2.4km.
Scenic World has also just
released its Annual Pass + costing $99 for an adult, $39 for children
(4-13yrs), and $239 for a family (2 adults and up to five children under
13). It entitles visitors to unlimited rides all day, every day of the
year, 15% off additional tickets, food and beverage, and retail
purchases.
