International Travel Trade Experts to Grace Los Angeles Times Travel Show 2013

Los Angeles Times Travel Show, the must-attend Southern California travel event of the year, announced the world-class travel experts, engaging live demonstrations and hands-on activities scheduled for February 23 and 24 at the L.A. Convention Center. The program schedule and tickets are available now at latimes.com/travelshow.

“Part of the fun of travel is discovering your options and enjoying the planning stage,” said Rick Steves, author and host of “Rick Steves’ Europe”.“At Los Angeles Times Travel Show you have the chance to do exactly that, talk to the experts and get your travel dreams in proper focus, all under one exciting roof.”

Steves along with headlining speakers Phil Keoghan (Emmy® Award-winning host of“The Amazing Race,” best-selling author), Andrew McCarthy (actor, award-winning travel journalist, author of “The Longest Way Home”) and Arthur Frommer (publisher of more than 340 Frommer’s travel guides) will be joined by an impressive roster of authorities on a variety of topics designed to equip even the most seasoned jetsetters and backpackers to get the most out of the experience of travel.

Catharine Hamm (LA Times Travel Editor), John DiScala (JohnnyJet.com), Gabe Saglie (Travelzoo) and Brian Kelly (The Points Guy) will reveal their road-tested tips for saving money while Rudy Maxa (The Savvy Traveler) and Julia Dimon (“Word Travels”) will regale audiences with tales of their adventures. Food-minded explorers will relish the opportunity to listen in as Jonathan Gold (LA Times Food Critic) swaps secrets about how to discover the best places to eat wherever you go, hear where Josh Gates (“Destination Truth”) stops to sip mojitos in between monster hunts, and watch live cooking demos from chefs such as Brian Malarkey (“Top Chef,” “The Taste”). For those looking to pick up some practical skills, Joanna Stern (ABC News Technology Editor) and Jen Leo (Web Buzz Columnist) will download the latest in tech, Christopher Reynolds (LA Times Travel Journalist) and Mark Boster (LA Times Photographer) will share photo and video tips, and Marybeth Bond (GutsyTraveler.com) will tackle the ultimate, inescapable task: how to pack a suitcase.

Travel Show is an “all-inclusive” getaway in itself, with activities such as a zip line, rock wall and bubble rollers, a Wildlife Experience animal show and souvenir photos included with admission. Cruise Planners and CP Vacations, American Express Travel Representatives, will be on site ready to create itineraries and book travel, while the U.S. Department of State will be providing passport services. The five-acre show floor will be filled with exhibitors representing destinations near and far – from Southern California’s hidden gems to the world’s most enchanting locales – offering information and advice, special pricing and giveaways throughout the weekend.
