La Ronde Returns to Sydney: The Grand Electric Lights Up with Australia’s Most Dazzling Cabaret Experience

La Ronde
Sydney’s nightlife scene is set to sparkle once again as La Ronde, the wildly celebrated cabaret spectacle from acclaimed production house Strut & Fret, returns to ignite the stage at The Grand Electric from 26 March to 10 May.

After earning more five-star reviews across Australia than any Strut & Fret production to date, La Ronde has become one of the country’s most talked-about live entertainment experiences. For travellers visiting Sydney, the show offers an unforgettable night out that blends theatre, circus artistry, music and immersive performance into one electrifying evening.

A Must-See Sydney Nightlife Experience

Positioned at the crossroads of theatre, cabaret and contemporary performance, La Ronde delivers a high-energy production that transforms a night in Sydney into a full sensory adventure. The show combines acrobatics, dance, comedy and live music within an intimate venue designed to bring audiences closer to the action.

For visitors exploring Sydney’s cultural and entertainment offerings, La Ronde adds a compelling reason to venture beyond traditional sightseeing and experience the city after dark. The immersive format places guests inside the performance rather than simply watching from afar, creating an atmosphere more reminiscent of Europe’s underground cabaret scene than a conventional theatre show.

The return season follows a successful national run and an Auckland tour, highlighting the growing international appeal of Australian live performance.

The Grand Electric: Sydney’s Home of Immersive Cabaret

La Ronde
Located in vibrant Surry Hills, The Grand Electric has quickly established itself as one of Sydney’s most exciting entertainment venues. Designed specifically for immersive productions, the space blends vintage glamour with modern nightlife energy.

Visitors can expect a venue that feels part theatre, part nightclub and part secret performance lounge. The intimate setting ensures every seat feels close to the stage, amplifying the intensity and connection between performers and audience.

Surry Hills itself has become a destination for food lovers and culture seekers, making La Ronde an ideal centrepiece for a complete Sydney evening itinerary, paired with nearby restaurants, bars and late-night venues.

Why La Ronde Is Winning Audiences Nationwide

La Ronde stands out for its bold choreography, striking visual design and charismatic performers. The show’s reputation has been built on word-of-mouth acclaim, earning more than two dozen five-star reviews across Australia.

Audiences can expect a production defined by theatrical flair, humour and spectacular physical performances. The energy is fast-paced and immersive, delivering moments of surprise and spectacle throughout the evening.

Early bookings are strongly encouraged, with an exclusive offer allowing audiences to secure seats at a discounted early bird rate. Guests who book before midnight on 2 March can save an additional 10 percent using the promo code LREXCLUSIVE10, subject to availability.

Late Night Vice: Sydney’s Wildest After-Dark Show

La Ronde
While La Ronde prepares for its return season, Sydney audiences still have time to catch the final performances of Late Night Vice, another boundary-pushing production from the creators of BLANC DE BLANC ENCORE and LIMBO.

Described as a cocktail-fuelled fever dream blending comedy, cabaret and immersive storytelling, Late Night Vice delivers a completely different but equally unforgettable experience. With a strict no-phones, no-cameras policy, the production encourages guests to be fully present in the moment, adding to its underground allure.

The final Sydney performance takes place on 15 March, marking the last chance for visitors and locals to experience the show before it closes.

A New Reason to Plan a Sydney Getaway

Live entertainment continues to play a growing role in destination tourism, with travellers increasingly seeking unique cultural experiences alongside iconic attractions. Productions like La Ronde reinforce Sydney’s position as one of the Asia-Pacific region’s leading cities for immersive performance and nightlife.

Whether you are visiting Sydney for a weekend escape, a business trip or a longer Australian holiday, adding a cabaret evening at The Grand Electric offers a memorable way to experience the city’s creative pulse.

With limited seasons and strong demand, La Ronde is shaping up to be one of Sydney’s standout entertainment highlights of the year.

AIME 2026 Melbourne: Big Builds, Bold Ideas and the Future of Business Events in Asia Pacific

AIME 2026
The global business events community converged on Melbourne for the 33rd edition of AIME Asia Pacific, reaffirming its position as the leading meetings and incentives event in the Asia Pacific region. Hosted at the world-class Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, AIME 2026 welcomed exhibitors from 36 countries and territories, alongside strong representation from across Australia.

As one of the most influential trade shows in the business events industry, AIME continues to set the benchmark for connection, innovation and growth. This year, Creative Hire played a pivotal role in shaping the visitor experience, delivering immersive environments aligned with the bold vision of AIME 2026.

Creative Hire Appointed Official Partner at AIME 2026

In 2026, Creative Hire was appointed as an official Welcome Function and Hosted Buyers Lounge Partner, tasked with designing and delivering immersive spaces that elevated the overall exhibition and event design.

The Welcome Function and Hosted Buyers Lounge were carefully curated to foster meaningful engagement, combining atmosphere, functionality and design-led thinking. These spaces reflected the evolving expectations of the global meetings and incentives market, where experience now drives connection.

Alongside this partnership role, Creative Hire also showcased its group capability through a custom stand space, demonstrating expertise in delivering large-scale exhibitions, live events and creative activations at scale.

Paul Enright, Business Development Manager at Creative Hire, reinforced the significance of AIME within the Asia Pacific business events landscape, noting the vibrant transformation of the exhibition floor.

He observed that the refreshed zoning and expanded networking areas brought new energy to the hall, encouraging deeper engagement and more dynamic conversations between exhibitors and visitors.

AIME 2026: The Leading Meetings and Incentives Event in Asia Pacific

AIME 2026
Recognised globally as the premier business events trade show in the region, AIME attracts event planners, PCOs, destination marketers and suppliers seeking to build partnerships and unlock new opportunities.

With its strategic location in Melbourne, a city renowned for hosting major international conferences and exhibitions, AIME strengthens Australia’s reputation as a powerhouse destination for meetings and incentives travel.

Leona Byrne, Senior Business Development Manager at Creative Hire, highlighted the renewed focus on face-to-face connection.

She noted that clients are actively searching for creative, impactful solutions that elevate their events and deliver meaningful engagement. AIME 2026 clearly demonstrated that immersive design and experiential thinking are no longer optional extras but essential components of successful business events.

Stand Design Concept: From Safe to Bold

For Creative Hire and sister company DisplayWise, AIME 2026 marked a defining milestone. Exhibiting together under one collective pavilionised space for the first time, the collaboration sent a clear message: Big Builds. Bold Ideas.

The stand design concept invited visitors to reimagine what is possible for their next exhibition or event. The visual narrative explored a shift from safe to bold, neutral to vibrant, and static to immersive.

Drawing inspiration from the resurgence of colour blocking in 2026, the design fused Creative Hire’s signature magenta with DisplayWise’s raspberry red. Industrial designers developed a colourful monochrome gradient using layered brand tones, textures and finishes, resulting in a cohesive and striking aesthetic.

A next-generation LED wall introduced dynamic visual animations, creating a high-contrast, minimalist and modern display environment. The pavilion-style concept blended modular system builds with premium craftsmanship and custom timber joinery, demonstrating how aluminium framing can increase flexibility without compromising impact.

The result was an exhibition space that moved beyond structure to create a meaningful, memorable brand experience.

Big Builds. Bold Ideas. A New Era of Exhibition Design

AIME 2026
The “Big Builds” philosophy reflects Creative Hire’s capacity to deliver large-scale, complex event and exhibition environments with precision and reliability. From national roadshows to custom exhibition stands, the group offers end-to-end solutions combining technical expertise, seamless logistics and integrated project management.

“Bold Ideas” represents design-led strategy that challenges convention. It is a commitment to fearless thinking, immersive storytelling and innovative concepts that capture attention and elevate brands.

At AIME 2026, this combined approach demonstrated how the future of exhibition environments lies in hybrid builds that merge modular efficiency with bespoke finishes, enabling event managers and PCOs to deliver ambitious visions with confidence.

Why AIME 2026 Matters for Business Events Travel

For professionals planning conferences, incentives, exhibitions and live events across Asia Pacific, AIME remains an essential fixture on the industry calendar. It is where destinations, venues and suppliers connect to shape the future of global business events.

Mary Valley Rattler wins Queensland Government grant to establish boutique RV/caravan park in the heart of historic Gympie

Mary Valley Rattler
Gympie’s award-winning heritage railway, the Mary Valley Rattler, has been awarded a grant of $200,000 from the Queensland Government’s Regional Tourism Infrastructure Fund (RTIF) to establish facilities for RVs (recreational vehicles) on land adjacent to Historic Gympie Station in Tozer Street.

The project will deliver eight powered, self-contained RV and caravan bays with water, lighting, and security infrastructure — enabling visitors to stay onsite, explore Gympie’s historic station and city centre, and participate in extended tourism experiences.

The activation will transform an under-utilised area into a vibrant, multi-use tourism asset that strengthens Gympie’s position within the Sunshine Coast Hinterland drive network.

Construction of the RV and caravan facilities is scheduled to begin in mid-2026, with a proposed completion date in early 2027. The construction will generate six full-time positions, and once operational, it is estimated that the RV Park will produce some $200,000 annually in expenditure for the Gympie region.

The Mary Valley Rattler, operated by Rattler Railway Company Ltd, is a not-for-profit, community-based heritage rail operator located in Gympie, Queensland. Established to preserve and operate the historic Gympie to Amamoor railway line, the Rattler provides one of Queensland’s most authentic and immersive tourism experiences — celebrating the state’s rail heritage and delivering economic, social and educational benefits for the region.

Driving Demand and Tourism Growth

The aim of the Regional Tourism Infrastructure Fund is to promote sustainable tourism growth and regional economic development.

The Gympie RV Park project is strategically aligned with Queensland Government priorities for sustainable tourism growth and regional economic development. It directly supports the objectives of Destination 2045: Delivering Queensland’s Tourism Future, the Queensland Drive Tourism Strategy, and local government planning frameworks that prioritise tourism infrastructure, accessibility, and community benefit.

It also responds directly to demand identified in the Gympie RV Strategy (2022) and Gympie Regional Council Tourism Strategy (2019–2024), both of which highlight the need for improved, compliant RV infrastructure linked to key attractions such as the Mary Valley Rattler.

The establishment of the RV Park aims to:
  • Convert day visitors into overnight guests, capturing a greater share of the $7 billion Australian caravanning and camping economy.
  • Position Gympie as a key stopover within Queensland’s drive network, connecting the Sunshine Coast Hinterland with the Fraser Coast and Wide Bay–Burnett.
  • Strengthen the Mary Valley Rattler’s role as a flagship regional attraction, increasing the length of stay in Gympie, and boosting spending on local hospitality, retail, and events.

Welcoming the Government grant, Mary Valley Rattler General Manager, Sherry Lowe, said that the Gympie RV Park would be critical for regenerating the Gympie city centre, especially following the opening of the highway bypass in 2024.

Gympie’s historic station
“We need to provide every incentive possible to attract visitors off the highway and into Gympie, and the establishment of a quality RV Park in the middle of Gympie’s heritage area will be an enormous boost to the local tourism economy,” said Ms Lowe.

“The goal of the Queensland Government’s Destination 2045 strategy is to enhance tourism infrastructure that drives regional dispersal, accessibility and legacy outcomes and that’s precisely what the Gympie RV Park will achieve.

“Quality RV facilities have been identified as essential for growing the drive market, which fuels regional tourism. We want people not just to visit Gympie but to stay and deliver sustained flow-on benefits to local businesses and residents.

“We particularly want to thank Tourism Minister Andrew Powell for the support of the region and tourism operations such as Mary Valley Rattler.”

Departing from Polo Beach, this immersive adventure blends history, culture and ocean exploration into a single unforgettable experience.

Sailing Traditions Rooted in Polynesian Wayfinding

More than a thousand years ago, Polynesian navigators crossed over 2,000 miles of open ocean to reach Hawai‘i using outrigger canoes stabilised by a side float attached with wooden supports. These master navigators relied on stars, ocean swells and wind patterns to guide their journeys.

Today, knowledgeable local crew share this rich heritage, offering insights into traditional canoe construction, navigation techniques and the cultural significance of ocean voyaging. Guests are invited to learn basic paddling techniques and gain a deeper appreciation for the ingenuity and resilience of early Polynesian explorers.

Gliding silently over the ocean offers a serene connection with nature that motorised tours simply cannot replicate.

Snorkelling, Sea Turtles and Seasonal Whale Encounters

The canoe journey includes opportunities to snorkel in clear waters where vibrant marine life thrives. Sea turtles are frequently spotted, while seasonal whale migrations bring the chance to witness humpback whales breaching offshore during winter months.

Out of the Bars and Into the Streets: The Spirit of the 78ers Lives On at Sydney Mardi Gras

Karl Zlotkowski
A Historic Voice at the Pre-Parade Press Conference

Sydney’s globally celebrated Mardi Gras season reached an emotional and powerful moment this morning during the Pre-Parade Press Conference, where Karl Zlotkowski, representing the 78er's Advisory of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Committee and the wider 78er community, reflected on the legacy, meaning and enduring global significance of the parade.

Held ahead of the iconic annual march, the address reminded locals and international visitors alike that Mardi Gras is not simply a festival, but a living piece of cultural history that continues to shape Sydney’s identity as one of the world’s most inclusive travel destinations.

Opening his remarks, Zlotkowski acknowledged the cultural foundations of the city. “I acknowledge the traditional owners and custodians of this land and pay my respects to their elders, past, present and emerging. Always was, always will be Aboriginal land.”

Honouring Nearly Five Decades of Pride and Progress

Zlotkowski paid tribute to generations of community leaders who have carried Mardi Gras forward since its groundbreaking beginnings in 1978.

“I also wish to acknowledge the elders and leaders of our Mardi Gras community, not just those from the first Mardi Gras in 1978 but all those who have carried Mardi Gras right through the last 48 years, and will carry us through to our 50th anniversary in 2028,” he said.

For travellers visiting Sydney during Mardi Gras, this sense of continuity is part of what makes the event extraordinary. Few festivals in the world combine celebration, activism and history so seamlessly, offering visitors a chance to witness a movement that continues to evolve while honouring its origins.

The Parade That Defines a Global Destination

78er's
While the Mardi Gras Festival includes weeks of performances, exhibitions and community gatherings across Sydney, one event remains at its heart.

“Each year we have a Mardi Gras festival that's crowded with fabulous events, all pitched to include all members of our community, but there is one event each year that all these events lead to, our Mardi Gras parade,” Zlotkowski explained.

He highlighted the parade’s unique global standing. “Our parade is the only Pride event in the world that has marched every year in an unbroken succession ever since it was born in 1978.”

Taking place after dark, the Sydney parade delivers a dazzling spectacle of light, music and performance that transforms Oxford Street into what many consider the most vibrant nighttime Pride celebration anywhere in the world.

How an Accidental Night Parade Changed History

One of the most fascinating insights shared during the press conference was how the parade’s nighttime tradition began almost unintentionally.

“That nighttime thing was almost an accident,” Zlotkowski said. In 1978, organisers planned a street party to encourage participation from people who might not have felt comfortable attending a daytime protest.

“In a way, it was a call to come out,” he explained.

The 1970s marked a turning point for LGBTQI+ visibility in Australia. “We didn’t exist before. We weren’t visible, until 1978 when thousands of us decided that the time had come to come out of the bars and into the streets.”

Today, that decision is widely recognised as a defining moment in Australian social history and one that transformed Sydney into a global symbol of equality and celebration.

Celebrating Visibility, Equality and Shared Joy

Mardi Gras
This year’s parade continues that legacy, with the 78ers commemorating decades of visibility while remembering early legislative efforts toward equality.

“Tomorrow, we will be remembering the first New South Wales attempt to pass anti discrimination legislation in 1976,” Zlotkowski said, noting that even unsuccessful attempts demonstrated growing recognition of the community.

“We were no longer hidden, we were proud and we were coming out. And that is what we will do again tomorrow.”

He described the deeper meaning behind Mardi Gras, emphasising its emotional and cultural importance. “We will feel the love, and we will feel it together. Mardi Gras is always about shared joy. It's about connection with each other. It's about self expression, and it's about belonging to a community that is out, proud and visible.”

Why Sydney Mardi Gras Is a Must-Experience Cultural Event

Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras has become one of Australia’s most significant tourism drawcards, attracting visitors from across the globe seeking celebration, inclusivity and authentic cultural experiences.

Beyond the spectacular floats and performances, travellers discover a city united by diversity and creativity. Restaurants, galleries, beaches and nightlife come alive with energy, making Mardi Gras an ideal time to experience Sydney at its most welcoming and vibrant.

As Zlotkowski concluded with a rallying cry that echoes across generations, the spirit of the festival remains clear: “Out of the bars and into the streets! Ecstatica! Joy is power!”

Sydney Celebrates Pride: Lord Mayor Clover Moore Champions Inclusion at Mardi Gras Pre-Parade Press Conference

Clover Moore
A City United Ahead of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras

Sydney’s vibrant spirit of diversity and celebration was on full display this morning as the Lord Mayor of Sydney, Clover Moore, addressed media and community leaders at the Pre-Parade Press Conference ahead of the 48th Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras. Held in Surry Hills, the event marked the official lead-in to one of Australia’s most iconic cultural celebrations, drawing international attention to Sydney as a global destination for inclusion, equality and pride tourism.

Welcoming attendees, Moore wished everyone a happy Mardi Gras and reflected on the enduring significance of the event to both the city and its people. Her message reinforced Sydney’s identity as a welcoming destination that embraces diversity and celebrates individuality year-round.

A Lifetime of Support for Mardi Gras

Clover Moore’s connection to Mardi Gras spans decades. She shared that she became the first member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly to attend the parade in 1992, beginning a tradition she has proudly continued every year since. Today, she said she particularly enjoys marching alongside Member for Sydney Alex Greenwich, highlighting the strong political and community support behind the event.

Since becoming Lord Mayor in 2004, Moore noted that the City of Sydney has remained a steadfast supporter of Mardi Gras, contributing financial backing, preparing the city with colourful banners, and officially launching celebrations each year with the raising of the Mardi Gras flag at Sydney Town Hall.

She emphasised that the festival reflects the very character of Sydney itself, stating that the city celebrates diversity and inclusion as core values that define its identity on the global stage.

More Than a Parade: Celebrating Identity and Belonging

Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras
During her address, Moore highlighted the deeper meaning behind Mardi Gras, explaining that the celebration allows people to truly be themselves, not just during the parade but throughout the year.

She spoke about the importance of creating spaces where members of the LGBTQI+ community feel safe, respected and visible, reinforcing Sydney’s reputation as one of the world’s most inclusive travel destinations. For visitors arriving from around Australia and overseas, Mardi Gras offers more than entertainment; it represents community, acceptance and shared celebration.

Acknowledging Community Leadership and Ongoing Challenges

The Lord Mayor also paid tribute to community advocate Maxie Shield, recognising her commitment to building a safer and more inclusive Sydney. Moore recalled a pivotal moment in 2007 when Shield guided her and the then Police Minister on a late-night tour of Oxford Street following incidents of violence targeting the gay community, helping leaders understand firsthand the challenges faced by LGBTQI+ residents.

Reflecting on recent incidents affecting the community, Moore described such attacks as shameful and inconsistent with Sydney’s values. She reaffirmed that the city strongly welcomes all communities and stands firmly with the LGBTQI+ community, particularly during Mardi Gras celebrations.

Her closing message was simple yet powerful: a heartfelt wish for everyone to enjoy a happy Mardi Gras.

Sydney Mardi Gras: A Global Travel Experience

Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras
Each year, the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras transforms the Harbour City into a colourful international celebration, attracting travellers seeking culture, nightlife, creativity and community connection. Beyond the parade itself, visitors experience weeks of performances, exhibitions, parties and cultural conversations that showcase Sydney’s openness and artistic energy.

For travellers planning a visit, Mardi Gras represents one of the most dynamic times to explore Sydney, when the city’s streets, venues and landmarks unite in a shared celebration of pride and equality.

Sydney’s Values Shine Bright: Alex Greenwich Celebrates Pride and Progress at Mardi Gras Pre-Parade Press Conference

Member for Sydney Alex Greenwich
Powerful Gathering on Gadigal Land

Sydney’s countdown to the world-famous Mardi Gras Parade gathered momentum this morning as community leaders, organisers and government representatives came together for the Pre-Parade Press Conference held ahead of the 48th Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras.

Member for Sydney Alex Greenwich opened his address by acknowledging the significance of standing on Gadigal land alongside Lord Mayor Clover Moore, the Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras team, the 78ers and a wide range of community leaders and advocates who continue to shape the festival’s enduring legacy.

Greenwich described the moment as a celebration not only of an event, but of shared values that define Sydney as one of the world’s most inclusive travel destinations.

Sydney’s Message to the World

Speaking passionately about the upcoming parade, Greenwich emphasised the global importance of Mardi Gras and what it represents beyond the festivities.

“This Saturday, Sydney's values will be on show to the entire world,” he said. “We celebrate fairness and equality. We celebrate people for who they are, and we see people be proud of their sexuality and gender identity.”

The Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras has evolved into a major international tourism drawcard, attracting visitors from across Australia and around the globe who come to experience a city united by acceptance, creativity and diversity. For many travellers, the parade offers a powerful cultural experience that blends celebration with advocacy and history.

Recognising Challenges and Advocating for Change

Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras
While acknowledging the joy surrounding Mardi Gras, Greenwich also spoke about the ongoing challenges faced by LGBTQI+ communities.

“We know that this is a challenging time for our community and for many communities right across Australia,” he said, highlighting the need for continued progress in equality and legal protections.

He stressed the importance of strengthening hate crime laws in New South Wales to ensure sexuality and gender identity are fully protected across legislation. He also called for improvements to anti-discrimination protections, particularly within schools, and emphasised the importance of ensuring the LGBTQI+ community has access to justice through a fully funded LGBTQ+v legal service.

These messages reflected Mardi Gras’ dual role as both celebration and catalyst for meaningful social change.

A Parade That Inspires Hope

Looking ahead to the parade itself, Greenwich shared his excitement about once again joining Lord Mayor Clover Moore in the iconic procession through Sydney’s streets.

“I am really looking forward to jumping in the back of a convertible with the Lord Mayor Clover Moore again tomorrow, rolling down the Mardi Gras parade,” he said.

He described the parade as far more than a spectacle, calling it “a beacon of hope and a sign of strength for our community,” adding that the annual event continues to inspire resilience and optimism.

“It gives me strength every year that we will continue to fight and we will continue to win the battles and challenges ahead of us. So Happy Mardi Gras Sydney!”

Why Mardi Gras Remains a Must-Visit Global Event

Besa Bondi: Spanish Tapas, Late-Night Energy and Mediterranean Flavour Arrive in Sydney’s Iconic Beachside Suburb

Besa
Bondi has long been one of Australia’s most recognisable travel destinations, drawing visitors for its golden sands, coastal walks and vibrant dining scene. Now, a new chapter in Bondi’s culinary evolution begins with the arrival of Besa, a Spanish tapas bar set to infuse the neighbourhood with the spirited, late-night culture of Madrid.

Opening on Sunday 1 March, Besa is the latest venue from ESCA Hospitality Group, bringing bold Spanish flavours, curated wines and high-energy hospitality to the heart of Bondi.

A Taste of Madrid in Bondi

Inspired by the dynamic tapas bars of Spain’s capital, Besa channels the intimate, buzzing atmosphere of Madrid into a contemporary Australian setting. The name itself, meaning “kiss” in Spanish, reflects connection, warmth and the joy of gathering around a shared table.

For travellers exploring Sydney’s food scene, Besa offers more than a meal. It delivers a cultural immersion into Spain’s social dining traditions, where food flows, drinks are constantly refreshed and conversations stretch long into the evening.

This opening further strengthens ESCA Hospitality Group’s footprint in Sydney, following the success of Henrietta and AALIA Wine Room.

Tapas Culture Reimagined for the Coast

At its core, Besa celebrates tapas, a culinary ritual deeply woven into Spanish culture. Designed for sharing, the menu blends regional inspiration with ingredients and flavours that resonate with Bondi’s coastal lifestyle.

Besa
Head chef Alan Kropman and executive chef Ibrahim Kasif draw on experience from acclaimed Sydney kitchens to present dishes that balance tradition and modern flair. Menu highlights include blue mackerel with butter leaf and encurtidos, raw beef carpaccio with white anchovy and goats cheese anchoiade, fideuà negra of squid ink egg noodles with grilled chicken and aioli, and confit potato, onion and egg tortilla.

Desserts rotate weekly, with interpretations of Basque cheesecake, churros and flan ensuring a sweet finish reflective of Spain’s regional diversity.

For food-focused travellers searching for the best tapas in Bondi or authentic Spanish restaurants in Sydney, Besa is positioned to become a must-visit destination.

A Wine List That Travels Across Spain

Besa’s wine program mirrors the depth and diversity of Spain’s vineyards. With twenty wines available by the glass and sixty by the bottle, the list showcases a broad spectrum of Spanish regions and styles.

Beyond Spain, carefully selected Australian and New Zealand producers sit alongside bottles from France, Italy and Uruguay, creating a well-rounded offering that complements the menu while remaining true to Spanish culinary roots.

For visitors interested in Spanish wine in Sydney, Besa provides an accessible yet expressive introduction to the country’s celebrated winemaking heritage.

Cocktails Inspired by Don Quixote

Besa
Literature lovers will appreciate the creative cocktail list inspired by Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes. Each drink reflects themes and archetypes from the novel’s chapters, blending storytelling with mixology.

Signature creations include El Compañero, a vibrant mix of vodka, limoncello, suze, citrus and blood orange sorbet inspired by the loyal Sancho Panza, and El Regreso, combining mint-washed sherry, crème de menthe, plum verjus, citrus and fizz to echo Don Quixote’s reflective return home.

For tourists seeking late-night bars in Bondi with creative cocktails and DJ sets, Besa offers a dynamic alternative to traditional beachside venues.

Design That Echoes Madrid’s Underground Bars

Architect Matt Darwon has crafted an interior reminiscent of Madrid’s underground scene, layered with mid-century modern influences and subtle Spanish references. Moody red tones, spotted gum timber and perimeter banquette seating create intimacy within the 65-seat space.

A chrome-clad DJ booth anchors the room, with Spanish-influenced funk and house music playing from Friday to Sunday, reinforcing the venue’s energetic identity.

Located in The Hub alongside established Bondi favourites, Besa enhances the suburb’s reputation as one of Sydney’s premier dining precincts.

Why Besa Is a Must-Visit for Sydney Travellers

Besa
For visitors planning a trip to Sydney, Bondi Beach remains an essential stop. Now, with the arrival of Besa, travellers can pair coastal exploration with an authentic Spanish dining experience just moments from the shoreline.

Whether you are seeking the best new restaurants in Bondi, authentic Spanish tapas in Sydney, or a lively late-night dining venue near Bondi Beach, Besa delivers atmosphere, flavour and cultural storytelling in equal measure.

On Track for the Future: KiwiRail’s Performance Lift Signals a New Era for New Zealand Tourism and Travel

Northern Explorer
New Zealand’s rail network is more than freight and figures. It is the backbone of regional connectivity, the gateway to scenic journeys, and a vital link between cities, ports and communities. The latest half-year results from KiwiRail reveal a strong financial and operational performance that is set to benefit tourism, business travel and domestic mobility across the country.

For travellers exploring Aotearoa, this renewed strength in rail means greater reliability, modern infrastructure and improved connections between some of New Zealand’s most iconic destinations.

A Strong First Half for FY26

KiwiRail delivered a H1 FY26 operating surplus of $73.4 million, up $47.6 million on the same period last year. The company remains on track to meet its full-year operating surplus target of $160 million.

Freight volumes increased 7 per cent to 1.8 billion net tonne kilometres, reflecting steady domestic demand and the normalisation of bulk volumes. While freight may seem separate from tourism, strong commercial rail operations underpin the wider network, supporting the sustainability and reliability that travellers depend on.

Despite a highly competitive freight market expected in the second half, the company’s disciplined execution and productivity improvements are strengthening its long-term resilience.

$601 Million Invested to Modernise the Network

Coastal Pacific
In the first half of FY26 alone, $601 million was invested across the network and in key capital projects. This forms part of a multi-year rail transformation programme that has seen more than $9 billion invested in track upgrades, signalling, infrastructure and modern rolling stock.

A major focus has been preparing Auckland’s metro network for the opening of the City Rail Link. The extensive Rail Network Rebuild programme has delivered the equivalent of more than 15 years of work in just four years.

For visitors to Auckland, this means more frequent services, shorter journey times and fewer delays once the new system is fully operational. Improved resilience will enhance both commuter and visitor experiences, particularly for those connecting between airport, city and cruise terminals.

Strengthening Connections Across Cook Strait

Rail connectivity between the North and South Islands remains essential for both tourism and freight. KiwiRail’s Interislander service has adapted to operating a two-ship fleet following the retirement of Aratere to support the Government’s Ferry Replacement Project.

Operating across the Cook Strait, Interislander ferries are a vital component of many New Zealand itineraries. While passenger numbers adjusted to the new fleet configuration, commercial freight volumes remained steady due to improved capacity utilisation and strengthened road bridging capability.

For travellers planning a North–South Island adventure, maintaining reliable crossings ensures that rail-and-ferry journeys remain a seamless part of the New Zealand travel experience.

MetroPort and Smarter Supply Chains

TranzAlpine
KiwiRail’s MetroPort product on the Auckland–Tauranga corridor has been successfully reset in partnership with Port of Tauranga. This enhanced corridor improves supply chain efficiency and strengthens the country’s logistics backbone.

For tourism, efficient freight movement means better stocked regional towns, stronger cruise operations and improved support for hospitality providers. It is an often unseen but crucial part of delivering world-class visitor experiences.

Safety and Sustainability at the Core

Safety remains KiwiRail’s top priority, with sustained improvements in key safety indicators and a stabilised Total Recordable Injury Frequency Rate of 22.54. Ongoing leadership, coaching and risk management programmes aim to ensure every employee returns home safely each day.

Sustainable rail transport also plays a significant role in New Zealand’s climate goals. Modern locomotives, upgraded infrastructure and improved asset utilisation reduce emissions and support greener travel choices for both domestic and international visitors.

What This Means for Tourism in New Zealand

A financially stronger and operationally modernised rail network supports:
  • More reliable regional and urban connections
  • Enhanced visitor mobility in major cities
  • Greater resilience against weather disruptions
  • Stronger inter-island connectivity
  • Future capacity to handle growing tourism demand

Te Huia travels between Hamilton and Auckland
As global travellers increasingly seek sustainable and seamless transport options, rail will play a central role in shaping New Zealand’s tourism future.

KiwiRail’s momentum in FY26 demonstrates a transport network not only recovering, but actively evolving. For the tourism industry, this signals confidence, stability and the infrastructure needed to welcome visitors well into the future.

Sydney Comes Alive: Inside the Energy of the 48th Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras

The Beresford
Each year, Sydney transforms into one of the world’s most vibrant and inclusive travel destinations, and the 48th Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras is already proving why it remains a global highlight on the cultural calendar.

This morning, I attended the official pre-parade press conference held at The Beresford, where community leaders, organisers and participants gathered to set the tone for one of Australia’s most anticipated celebrations of diversity, pride and unity.

For visitors planning a trip to Sydney, Mardi Gras is far more than a parade — it is an immersive cultural experience that blends travel, community storytelling, entertainment and activism into an unforgettable citywide celebration.

A Global Festival That Defines Sydney’s Cultural Identity

Mardi Gras 2026
The Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras has evolved into one of the world’s most recognised LGBTQIA+ festivals, drawing thousands of international visitors annually. The pre-parade media event highlighted how the festival continues to grow not only as a celebration but also as a powerful driver of tourism, inclusion and cultural exchange.

Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras CEO Jesse Matheson, alongside Co-Chairs Kathy Pavlich and Mits Delisle, outlined the festival’s ongoing mission to create spaces where identity, creativity and community thrive. Their message reinforced the event’s importance as both a celebration and a platform for meaningful social progress.

The presence of Clover Moore and Alex Greenwich highlighted the strong civic support behind Mardi Gras, recognising the festival’s significant contribution to Sydney’s tourism economy and global reputation as an inclusive destination.

Community Voices at the Heart of Mardi Gras

What makes Mardi Gras unique is its community-led spirit. Representatives from key organisations and parade groups shared insights into the diversity that defines the event.

Community leaders including ACON CEO Michael Woodhouse and Acting Equality Australia CEO Dale Dawson spoke about the continued importance of visibility, advocacy and support networks within Australia and beyond.

Parade participants attending the conference showcased the breadth of representation visitors can expect during parade night, including:
  • The Beresford
    Dykes on Bikes
  • The 78ers
  • Emerald City Kickball
  • Lifesavers with Pride
  • Queer Roller Derby
  • Sydney Gay & Lesbian Choir
  • Itty Bitty Titty Committee
  • CSIRO representatives led by Suzy Jackson

These groups reflect the festival’s powerful mix of activism, humour, history and celebration that makes Mardi Gras unlike any other global event.

Why Mardi Gras Is a Must-Experience Travel Event

For travellers, Mardi Gras offers a rare opportunity to experience Sydney at its most energetic and welcoming. Hotels, restaurants, bars and cultural venues across the city embrace the festivities, creating a lively atmosphere that extends far beyond the parade route.

Visitors can expect:
  • World-class performances and parties
  • Art exhibitions and cultural talks
  • Community events and inclusive celebrations
  • A spectacular parade showcasing creativity and identity

The festival also encourages travellers to explore neighbourhoods such as Surry Hills, Darlinghurst and Oxford Street, where Sydney’s LGBTQIA+ history and nightlife come alive during the celebration period.

Sydney as a Leading Inclusive Travel Destination

The Beresford
Events like Mardi Gras reinforce Sydney’s standing as one of the world’s most inclusive and welcoming cities. The festival attracts international travellers seeking meaningful experiences, cultural connection and celebration in a safe and vibrant environment.

From beachfront relaxation at Bondi to harbour cruises and cultural landmarks, visitors often combine Mardi Gras with broader exploration of New South Wales, turning a festival visit into a complete Australian holiday.

As highlighted throughout the press conference, Mardi Gras continues to evolve while remaining grounded in community, storytelling and shared celebration — values that resonate strongly with modern travellers seeking authentic experiences.
