PARK INN BY RADISSON TO ENERGIZE AUSTRALIA’S HOSPITALITY SCENE WITH FIRST HOTEL IN MELBOURNE

Park Inn by Radisson Melbourne Carlton
Radisson Hotel Group has reached another major milestone in its Asia Pacific expansion strategy with the signing of Park Inn by Radisson Melbourne Carlton, a contemporary and fully connected hotel that will mark this upper-midscale brand’s debut in Australia. When this newly converted property opens its doors in the fourth quarter of 2024, Park Inn by Radisson will introduce an exciting new era of feel-good, stress-free hospitality to this global city.

Situated in the suburb of Parkville, Park Inn by Radisson Melbourne Carlton is surrounded by top tier universities, hospital precincts, recreation centers and leisure attractions, just 3km from Melbourne’s CBD. Following the conversion of an existing hotel, it will undergo a complete renovation and redesign to align with Park Inn by Radisson’s international standards. This demonstrates the brand’s commitment to energizing the hospitality scene in key destinations and driving rapid growth.

Melbourne is the ideal location for Australia’s inaugural Park Inn by Radisson hotel. Consistently named as one of the world’s most livable cities, Victoria’s state capital is a thriving hub of culture, cuisine and commerce. It is also one of the world’s great sporting cities, with iconic annual events such as the Australian Open tennis, Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix, the AFL Premiership Season Grand Final, the Boxing Day Test cricket match, the Melbourne Cup horse racing festival and more. This makes Melbourne one of Australia’s most popular tourism destinations; the city attracted 10.3 million overnight visitors in 2023, including a large number of Asian visitors.

Within the Parkville suburb, the hotel places guests on the doorstep of Australia’s top biotech and neuroscience R&D facilities, and Monash University, which is known for its Pharmaceutical Studies faculty. It is also situated close to Royal Park and Royal Melbourne Zoo, and opposite Princes Park, the home of Carlton Football Club, the leading AFL team. Melbourne’s CBD can be reached in just 12-15 minutes via the convenient tram network, and the city’s Tullamarine Airport is 20km away.

Park Inn by Radisson Melbourne Carlton
Park Inn by Radisson Melbourne Carlton will feature 89 bright and well-equipped rooms, ranging from the 25-square meter Standard rooms to the 34-square meter Deluxe rooms, all of which feature signature “Sleep Well” bedding, contemporary furnishings, and refreshing bathrooms. Guests can work out at the gym, cool off in the pool, or stay connected and productive in two meeting rooms. The vibrant all-day dining restaurant and casual grab & go café provide a choice of culinary options, including an energizing breakfast, and every stay will be underpinned by the brand’s “Yes I Can” service philosophy.

A representative of Star Capital Group, parent of Frater Capital Group Pty Ltd, said: “We are delighted to partner with Radisson Hotel Group, one of the world's leading international hotel groups, to debut the Park Inn by Radisson brand in Australasia. The contemporary Park Inn by Radisson, Melbourne Carlton, is the ideal market introduction to this upper-midscale brand. We have plans to continue to expand our hotel portfolio in Australasia and we eagerly anticipate further opportunities for collaboration with Radisson.

Victor Kondarios, Director, Development, Australasia, RHG, added: “We are excited for this opportunity to introduce Park Inn by Radisson to Australia. Melbourne is one of the world’s most iconic cities with attractions for business and leisure travelers. Frater Capital Group is a strong company looking to grow its hotel portfolio. We are delighted to enter into this relationship with them, which includes a full range of support services such as revenue management, sales and marketing. We look forward to developing more hotels together in the future as we continue to expand across Australia.”

Park Inn by Radisson Melbourne Carlton will be the group’s third hotel in Australia, and fifth hotel in Australasia, joining Radisson Hotel on Flagstaff Gardens Melbourne, Radisson Blu Plaza Hotel, Sydney, Radisson Blu Denarau Fiji, and Grand Papua a member of Radisson Individuals in Port Moresby. Additional hotels are also under construction in the region.

Scheduled to open in 2028, the 225-key Radisson Blu Resort will feature a collection of stylish and elegant hotel rooms, suites and breathtaking beachfront villas. Guests can enjoy dining and relaxing at restaurants, a beachside bar, an infinity pool, a spa and a fitness center. The arrival of Radisson Blu in Ho Tram will support the continued growth and prosperity of Ba Ria-Vung Tau. Tanzania has been identified as a key market in the Group’s proactive expansion strategy, making its debut in the country with two hotel signings. This addition enhances the Group’s diverse African portfolio, spanning across 30 countries, further establishing it as the hotel company with the largest market presence in Africa.

The Radisson Blu Plaza Hotel - the perfect combination of modern comfort with historic charm

Radisson Blu Plaza Hotel
The Radisson Blu Plaza Hotel exudes luxury in all its style and appearance. Located in the heart of the financial district in Sydney, this hotel has an historic past and a pleasing recently completed restyled modern interior.

The Radisson Blu Plaza Hotel is located in an impressive sandstone building built way back in 1856 as the home of the Sydney Morning Herald. It then became the Bank of NSW in 1956, and in 2000 was transformed into the Radisson. The heritage sandstone façade was retained, an additional 3 floors added and the interior was completely redeveloped. Some of the important architectural features were retained. The original offices of Sir Warwick and Sir James Fairfax on the Mezzanine level were restored and are now beautiful meeting rooms.

Reception lobby
An impressive $13.5 million dollar renovation of the public spaces and 362 guest rooms and suites has just been completed. The hallways and guest rooms are decorated with large prints of historical photos of the building in bygone years.

I had the pleasure of staying at the Radisson Blu Plaza Hotel recently. The hotel reception area is functional and welcoming. Checkin went smoothly with the welcoming and friendly staff. They made me feel right at home on this my first stay at the hotel.

King Premier room
I was fortunate to be upgraded to a well appointed King Premier room on the 6th floor. The room was very spacious, with a high ceiling and a large bay window allowing plenty of natural light during the day. The window was double glazed to block out noise, and the stylish blackout curtains made the room dark at night for a restful night's sleep. Its decor was modern and stylish, and the guest room very clean and tidy.

The king bed was very comfy with good quality linen and an abundance of pillows. There was even a Pillow Menu for a wider choice of pillows if I so desired.

King Premier room
My room had a flat screen tv with a large number of free to air and satellite stations to chose from, an iPhone docking station, and work desk and chair. There was a well-stocked minibar and tea and coffee provisions - plus the bonus of some Tim Tams to eat! It was good to be connected to the outside world with the free high speed wireless internet that was provided in the room. A couch by the window and coffee table with a supply of travel magazines made for pleasurable reading.

The sparkling white marble bathroom had a bath and separate shower, vanity and toilet. A shuttered window between the bedroom and bathroom allowed natural light to flood in. Fluffy bath towels, bathrobes and a range of nice toiletries were provided.

indoor pool
A 15-metre indoor pool, spa and steam room are located on the mezzanine floor. I enjoyed using each of these, especially the heated pool that was one metre deep, for a few gentle swimming laps. Skylights provided an upwards view of the blue sky between the two wings of the hotel. The change rooms were neat and tidy and were equipped with individual lockers. A functional gym and Day Spa offering a range of massage services are located near the pool.

buffet breakfast
A delicious buffet breakfast of hot and cold dishes is provided each morning in the The Lady Fairfax Room. The menu items change each day to give variety. The Bentley Restaurant and Bar, located in the front corner of the hotel, is a leading restaurant offering high quality food and an extensive selection of drinks.

A number of rooms of various sizes are available for meetings, seminars, presentations and conferences. Catering is also available.

The Radisson Blu Plaza Hotel is located on the corner of Pitt, Hunter and O'Connell Streets in Sydney, with the main entrance in O'Connell Street under the flags. If travelling by train to the hotel, the nearest train station is Wynyard Station, or if driving the hotel will park your car for you. With walking distance of the hotel is Circular Quay, the Opera House, Botanic Gardens, the Rocks, Martin Place and the Pitt Street Mall.

The Radisson Blu Plaza Hotel is the ideal 5 star luxury hotel to stay in for business or pleasure when visiting Sydney. It perfectly combines all of its modern comforts within its proud historic building.

Radisson on Flagstaff Gardens Melbourne - Comfortable Contemporary Accommodation

Radisson on Flagstaff Gardens
I discovered the many standout features of the Radisson on Flagstaff Gardens Melbourne when I recently stayed there for the first time.

I was warmly welcomed by friendly reception staff in the large lobby and checked into my room without delay. My contemporary styled guest room was a corner room that allowed plenty of natural light to stream in through its two windows.

My hotel room was very clean and comfortable. A good night's rest was had on the comfy bed. I just used one of the pillows on the bed, so did not need to use the other choices on the pillow menu. There was a bedside table on each side of the bed.

The LCD TV showed plenty of stations as well as in-room movies.  The room had a sofa chair and coffee table, large work desk and ergonomic business chair.

Guest room
I made full use of the high-speed wireless internet access that is provided on a complimentary basis to all hotel guests.

There was a laptop-sized safe and mini bar that on this stay I did not use. However,  I did make full use of the tea and coffee making facilities each morning and evening.

The separate bathroom was white and bright, with a good overhead shower with plenty of hot water. A good range of toiletries, towels and a hairdryer were provided.

Other guest room options with more included features at the Radisson on Flagstaff Gardens Melbourne are the Premium Park View Rooms and Business Class Rooms.

Lobby - Radisson on Flagstaff Gardens
Here I must make mention of the wonderful staff I met at Radisson on Flagstaff Gardens Melbourne. It was not just the reception staff, but the cleaners, breakfast staff, and concierge whom I found to be both professional and friendly. One morning I was about to leave my room when the cleaner arrived. He not only did a meticulous job of cleaning the room, but chatted to me as a friend. The breakfast staff each morning not only cleared away my empty dishes from my table propmptly, but greeted me each time as they did. The concierge came to the rescue when I had trouble printing out my flight boarding pass in the Business Centre.

Each morning I went down to the HQ's on William Restaurant located on the ground floor to enjoy a delicious buffet breakfast. (The name of the restaurant comes from the building's past history as the Victorian Police Headquarters before it was converted to a hotel.)

HQ's on William Restaurant
It was good to start the day sitting at a table by the window enjoying the view of the Flagstaff Gardens as I relaxed reading the daily paper and eating the buffet breakfast. This included speciality breads and pastries, fresh fruit and yoghurt and house-made Bircher muesli and toasted granola. There was a good selection of hot foods to choose from that were frequently replenished. I especially liked the egg station that cooked free-range egg dishes to order, as well as waffles. Drinks consisted of a selection of freshly squeezed juices and a range of tea and coffee. A barista made me an espresso coffee that looked as good as it tasted. Breakfast is served Mon–Fri, 6:30–10:30 a.m. and Sat–Sun, 7–11 a.m.

HQ's on William Restaurant is a full-service restaurant that in addition to breakfast is also open for lunch and dinner. Executive chef Leigh Robbins takes his guests on a culinary tour of Victoria by offering seasonal products sourced from the nearby Queen Victoria Market. The menus consists of fresh, vibrant flavours and innovative recreations of contemporary Australian cuisine. Lunch is served daily, noon-4 p.m. and dinner daily, 6–10 p.m. Click to see the Dinner Menu .

There is a Happy Hour each Friday, 4–7 p.m. so that guests and others can drop in to unwind at the end of the week. There are drink specials & complimentary finger food on offer during this time.

Spa - Radisson on Flagstaff Gardens
What I really liked about Radisson on Flagstaff Gardens Melbourne was the spa pool, steam room, gymnasium, and relaxation deck on the top floor. I appreciated that these stayed open until late in the night, so I could make use of them and relax after being out all day and the early part of the evening. The views from the spa over the city and Docklands with the colourfully lit Star Observation Wheel were stunning. Other hotel guests also made appreciative comments about these facilities provided by the hotel. Here I met a  guest couple who had flown down to Melbourne from Sydney for a couple of days break, and another guest couple who had previously lived in Melbourne and had returned to visit friends.

The Radisson on Flagstaff Gardens Melbourne offers 24-hour reception, complimentary Wi-Fi, & 24-hour room service. There is a Concierge Corner, including shoe polisher and luggage scales which I used before checking out to make sure my carry on bag for the flight was under the 7kg limit allowed.

Other nice little services offered include complimentary water infused with lemon to drink in the lobby, complimentary newspapers and a complimentary pressing service for two items available Monday–Thursday.

There is a 24-hour Business Centre, including fax, copier and computer services and on-site meeting facilities. Three flexible spaces are available for up to 150 delegates. Events, weddings and engagement parties, cocktail parties, & product launches can be hosted at The Radisson, with group dining in HQ’s Restaurant and Bar and private dining in a dedicated function area. Themed options can be provided including flowers, lighting and entertainment.

View from Radisson on Flagstaff Gardens
The hotel has a great location on the edge of Melbourne's CBD overlooking the Flagstaff Gardens, which is the oldest park (first established in 1862) in Melbourne. The Gardens are a pleasant green space with large areas of lawns that feature eucalypts & Moreton Bay figs, avenues of elm trees, a bowling green, rose beds, tennis courts, sculptures and a sundial. There is a good children's playground, electric barbecues and plenty of seating. One evening I wandered around the park and saw some possums scampering around on the ground and up the tree trunks.

The hotel is next to the Queen Victoria Market, the largest open-air market in the Southern Hemisphere. I wandered around on the Sunday morning discovering all the food, fruit & vegies, clothes and general merchandise stalls. The Markets are open every day, except Mondays, with a night market held every Wednesday night. The Queen Victoria Market opened in 1878 with many of the original structures still standing. Next time I stay at the Radisson on Flagstaff Gardens Melbourne I must make the time to do the Self Guided Market History Tour.

The hotel is on tram route 55, which takes you one way along William Street down to the centre of the CBD and on to the Domain Interchange on St Kilda Road, and out of the CBD to West Coburg the other way. I often hopped on the tram to get around, as the hotel is in the new Free Tram Zone in the Melbourne CBD. The hotel is also near the free City Circle route 35 tram route that circles around the CBD area in a historic tram with a recorded commentary.

For those travelling to Melbourne by train the hotel is near Southern Cross Railway Station, and for those flying to Melbourne it is close to the Skybus Terminal. After I checked out of the hotel on my last day it was just a simple matter of getting on the free tram for a couple of blocks down William Street, then changing to a free tram on Collins Street for a couple of blocks and getting off outside the Skybus Terminal for the bus to Melbourne Airport.

If arriving by car there is self-parking and valet Hotel Parking.

Radisson on Flagstaff Gardens
When staying at Radisson on Flagstaff Gardens Melbourne I asked some of the other guests why they had chosen to stay there and not at one of the many other hotels in Melbourne. The most common answers reflected my view after staying there for the first time. It is in good accessible location, the staff are friendly and helpful, it has a homely welcoming atmosphere, the buffet breakfasts are delicious, and the spa pool on the top floor has stunning views, especially at night.

Radisson on Flagstaff Gardens Melbourne is a part of the Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group, which is one of the world's largest and most dynamic hotel companies. It now has more than 1,400 hotels in 115 countries. Anyone can join Club Carlson, the hotel groups reward program to benefit from enhanced services and the ability to earn and redeem rewards.

I found the Radisson on Flagstaff Gardens is Melbourne ideal in all ways  for my recent stay. If you want to experience this outstanding hotel for yourself book online and check out the Hotel Deals available.
