Visit Viet Nam Year: A Breakthrough Opportunity for Hue Tourism

The stage for the Opening Ceremony of the
National Tourism Year – Hue 2025.
Photo: Organizing Committee of Visit Viet Nam Year– Hue 2025
According to Ms. Tran Thi Hoai Tram, Director of the Department of Tourism, the Visit Viet Nam Year 2025, themed “Hue - Ancient Capital, New Opportunities,” featured over 160 activities organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, central agencies, Hue City, and other provinces and cities nationwide. Notably, the opening ceremony of Visit Viet Nam Year 2025 took place on the evening of March 25 along the bank of the Perfume River (near the Quoc Hoc Stele). The stage was a semi-realistic setup both on the water and on land, incorporating water screens, visual mapping, LED floors, fire effects, hot air balloons, paragliding, dense smoke, and immersive sound and lighting arrangements.

At a working session with the local authorities to hear reports on the opening ceremony program and related organizational matters for Visit Viet Nam Year – Hue (held on March 3), Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ho An Phong provided guidance and suggestions on the goals expected from this series of major events and programs. He emphasized that Hue must clearly define its objectives for the Visit Viet Nam Year, succeed in building and spreading Hue tourism brand name, achieve a breakthrough in visitor numbers, and especially, introduce new products, new flight routes, and new partnerships.

It can be said that, by early recognizing the advantages of organizing a comprehensive tourism event in each major tourism hub, Vietnam National Authority of Tourism initiated the idea of the Visit Viet Nam Year program as early as 2002. This idea has since become a key annual activity, attracting both domestic and international tourists to explore specific tourism products of each locality, with collaboration and support from other regions. Hue had the honor of first hosting the Visit Viet Nam Year in 2012; and, its efforts to invest in infrastructure, develop new routes, destinations, and tours, as well as focus on tourism promotion during the implementation of the program, have brought socio-economic benefits to the locality.

However, in the context of the tourism sector facing many fluctuations after the COVID-19 pandemic, competition among destinations has become increasingly intense. Therefore, Hue needs to take full advantage of the valuable opportunity of hosting the Visit Viet Nam Year for the second time to assert its position in the tourism industry.

Lots of Suggestions for Hue

It is worth recalling that at the conference titled “Enhancing the Effectiveness of Organizing the Visit Viet Nam Year from 2012 to 2017,” held in Hue 14 years ago, leaders of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism at that time emphasized that before defining the goals to form the theme and content of each Visit Viet Nam Year, three important issues must be clarified: First, it must be determined that National Tourism Year is being organized to promote and boost tourism both domestically and internationally, and to raise awareness about tourism. Second, it is necessary to distinguish whether this is a major event aimed at attracting tourists or an initiative to awaken the tourism potential of a locality or region. Third, the purpose of the event must be clarified - whether it is meant to serve tourists or the local residents. Only when these three issues are clearly defined can the theme, content, and evaluation criteria for the success of the Visit Viet Nam Year truly reflect the objectives of the event. This clarity also helps minimize shortcomings in the planning and execution processes.

According to People’s Artist Nguyen Xuan Bac, Director of the Department of Performing Arts, Hue should explore ways to incorporate more of the city's local specialties - culinary, cultural, and artistic - into its programs. These could also include specialty souvenirs tied to the events, allowing delegates to take home something memorable that reminds them of Hue. For the artistic programs, it is important to arrange performances from both international and domestic art troupes in a way that fosters cultural exchange, while still highlighting the unique value of Hue’s cultural heritage. Artist Xuan Bac also noted that the spirit of current youth generation about “following idols” is overenthusiastic. Therefore, Hue should consider organizing programs that invite popular youth idols to the city, thereby creating events with strong appeal, wide-reaching influence, and high media impact.

Mr. Ha Van Sieu, Deputy Director of the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism, stated that communication and promotion efforts are crucial and must take the lead. Through the logo and slogan of the Visit Viet Nam Year 2025, themed “Hue – Ancient Capital, New Opportunity,” it is necessary to promote media coverage and ensure its presence across various publications and platforms. All content, activities, and events related to the National Tourism Year must be continuously communicated to travel agencies and tour-selling partners associated with the event.

According to Deputy Minister Ho An Phong, all preparations for the events of the Visit Viet Nam Year must be conducted thoroughly and meticulously. The brand identity package also needs to be refined and transformed into communication products. Additionally, in the artistic programs, attention must be paid not only to assembling performances, but also to using art to tell the story of a culturally rich land - so that visitors could understand and be deeply impressed by Hue.

As an agency under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, VNAT oversees state management of tourism, enforces tourism laws nationwide, and manages public services in tourism according to the law.

Sipping Through the Scenery: Tea Tourism Blossoms in Guangxi’s Sanjiang County

Women wearing costumes of the Dong ethnic
group showcase tea-picking skills
Where Verdant Tea Gardens Meet Vibrant Dong Culture

In the heart of South China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Sanjiang Dong Autonomous County is cultivating more than just tea — it's nurturing a flourishing tea tourism scene that invites travelers to immerse themselves in both nature and tradition.

Surrounded by the picturesque tea fields of Xianren Mountain in Buyang village, visitors are discovering a blend of breathtaking landscapes, immersive cultural experiences, and the tranquil rhythm of rural life. Here, the ancient art of tea cultivation merges with the colorful customs of the Dong ethnic group, creating a destination steeped in charm and character.

From Leaf to Cup: A Journey of Taste and Tradition

Spring in Sanjiang is tea season — and it’s more than a harvest, it’s a celebration. In the county’s eco-industrial park, tea companies are hard at work processing the year’s first flush of tea. Fresh leaves glide along high-tech production lines, emerging as fragrant, tightly rolled leaves ready to be enjoyed across the country.

With over 215,000 mu (approximately 14,333 hectares) of tea gardens producing more than 20,000 tonnes of dry tea annually, Sanjiang is a powerhouse of China’s premium tea industry. And with the industry valued at over 8.7 billion yuan (about $1.2 billion), it’s not just a cultural treasure — it’s an economic engine.

Experience Tea Like Never Before

Sanjiang has smartly paired its booming tea industry with experiential tourism. In Xianren Mountain’s scenic tea fields, tourists can roll up their sleeves and join local farmers in picking tender tea leaves. Later, visitors can learn traditional processing techniques or enjoy a cup of freshly brewed tea while watching vibrant Dong cultural performances.

These hands-on experiences offer more than a glimpse into tea production — they provide a genuine connection to the land, the people, and the cultural soul of the region.

A Model for Rural Revitalization

This surge in tea tourism is playing a key role in revitalizing rural communities. Local farmers benefit from diversified income streams, while visitors gain authentic encounters far removed from fast-paced urban travel. Sanjiang’s approach showcases how heritage, agriculture, and tourism can work hand-in-hand to build a sustainable future.

Whether you’re a seasoned tea enthusiast or a curious traveler in search of serenity, Sanjiang Dong Autonomous County offers a refreshing escape filled with nature, flavor, and heart.

Western Australia Steps Into the Spotlight: Fresh Adventures from Coast to Forest

Down Under Discoveries
A new era of travel begins with direct flights to Busselton-Margaret River

The gateway to Australia’s stunning South West just got a whole lot closer. Qantas has announced new direct flights from Perth to Busselton-Margaret River, launching Thursday 27 June. Running three times a week, this new route adds over 31,000 annual seats to the region and aligns perfectly with the school holidays and the whale-watching season. With introductory fares from $149, it’s never been easier to sip wine among the vines, stroll through ancient forests, and breathe in the salty breeze of the Indian Ocean.

The Lodge Wadjemup earns a place among the world’s greatest

In a proud moment for Australian hospitality, The Lodge Wadjemup on Rottnest Island has been named on TIME’s '2025 World’s Greatest List'—the only Australian accommodation to make the cut. Blending laidback luxury with cultural depth, the Lodge is set to become a beacon of style and substance when fully complete in 2025. Expect 109 thoughtfully designed rooms, two dining venues, and a culturally respectful 'gathering ground' that honours the island’s rich heritage.

Face-to-fin with the ocean’s biggest gentle giants

Whale shark season has officially returned to Ningaloo Marine Park, drawing travellers from across the globe to swim alongside the world’s largest fish. Between February and July, Exmouth and Coral Bay welcome thousands of whale sharks who come to feed in the warm, plankton-rich waters. But that’s not all—Ningaloo is also one of the few places in the world where visitors can encounter whale sharks, manta rays and humpback whales in one location. The opportunity to swim with these giants makes this a truly bucket-list experience.

Walpole’s giants crowned Australia’s favourite eucalypts

Valley of the Giants Tree Top Walk
Western Australia’s ancient forests have taken centre stage with the 'Wondrous Forest of the Walpole Wilderness' winning Eucalypt of the Year. Famous for its towering Tingle and Karri trees, Walpole invites visitors to walk among giants—literally—on the Valley of the Giants Tree Top Walk. For those seeking more botanical wonders, the Great Western Woodlands came in second place. Twice the size of Tasmania, this vast ecosystem shelters around 30 percent of Australia’s eucalypt species and is the world’s largest intact temperate woodland.

Mandurah and Denmark named top Aussie towns to watch

The Wotif 2025 Aussie Town of the Year Awards have shone a light on two stunning WA destinations: Mandurah and Denmark. Ranked third and fourth respectively, these towns offer natural beauty and charm in abundance. Mandurah, just under an hour south of Perth, is famous for its shimmering estuary, coastal walks and abundant marine life. Denmark, set along the Great Southern Ocean, continues to enchant visitors with dramatic rock formations, crystal-clear waters, and a blossoming food scene—including the revitalised Denmark Hotel.

Western Australia’s culinary scene claims national glory

At the 2025 West Australian Good Food Guide Awards, WA’s best culinary talents and venues were rightfully celebrated. Cottesloe’s Gibney stole the show with both Restaurant and Wine List of the Year, while Blaze Young was named Chef of the Year. Bar Love took top honours as Bar of the Year and Besk in West Leederville was crowned Pub of the Year. In the South West, Voyager Estate impressed as Regional Restaurant of the Year, with De’sendent earning New Restaurant of the Year and Cameron Jones of Vasse Felix recognised as Regional Chef of the Year. Cambodia Takes Flight: Techo International Airport Set to Soar in July 2025

Techo International Airport
A New Global Gateway for Southeast Asia

Phnom Penh is preparing for a transformative milestone in its aviation and tourism journey with the much-anticipated launch of Techo Takhmao International Airport in July 2025. Poised to be the ninth-largest airport in the world, this colossal infrastructure project will mark a new era for Cambodia as it expands its global connectivity and tourism potential.

Spanning an impressive 2,600 hectares, the airport is not only a feat of engineering but a symbol of Cambodia’s aspirations to become a leading player in the regional travel landscape.

From Vision to Reality: Building an Aviation Marvel

Initially designed to accommodate 13 million passengers annually, Techo International Airport is expected to ramp up to 30 million by 2030 and ultimately 50 million by 2050. After facing pandemic-related delays, construction has resumed at full pace. The USD 1.5 billion project is a joint venture between the Cambodian government and the Overseas Cambodian Investment Corporation, with construction led by China Construction Third Engineering Bureau Group Co., Ltd.

Named in honour of military commanders Techo Meas and Techo York, who once defended Kandal Province, the airport is rooted in local heritage while embracing a bold, global future.

Architectural Innovation Meets Climate Conscious Design

British architecture powerhouse Foster + Partners, known for their work on iconic landmarks like the Louvre Abu Dhabi and the Zayed National Museum, has infused the design of Techo International Airport with sustainability and elegance.

The terminal features a lightweight steel grid shell roof canopy, allowing filtered natural light to flood the interiors while shielding passengers from Cambodia’s tropical weather. A single continuous canopy stretches seamlessly from the drop-off area to the airside gates, offering both aesthetic impact and practical protection.

Connecting the Past, Present, and Future

The airport will serve as a powerful companion to Cambodia’s newly opened Siem Reap–Angkor International Airport, which began operations in 2023. That facility, situated 40 kilometres east of Angkor Wat, welcomed over 1 million international visitors in 2024.

Together, these two major aviation hubs will provide unprecedented access to Cambodia’s cultural landmarks, beaches, and eco-tourism destinations.

Techo International Airport’s opening is not only expected to boost passenger capacity but also drive economic growth, attract investment, and support the government’s long-term tourism development goals.

A Soaring Future Ahead

As the world looks to explore destinations rich in history, hospitality, and heritage, Cambodia is preparing to meet that demand with style and ambition. Techo International Airport is more than just a transportation hub — it is a bold statement of Cambodia’s readiness to welcome the world.

Stretch Your Aussie Dollar: Five Budget-Friendly Countries That Deliver Big Experiences

With the Australian dollar currently under pressure, holidaymakers are thinking twice about where they jet off to next. Luckily, great travel doesn’t have to mean great expense. International money platform WISE has crunched the numbers and revealed five destinations where your Aussie dollar goes a lot further—without sacrificing excitement, culture, or comfort. From Southeast Asia to South America, these countries offer everything from pristine beaches to historic landmarks, all at a fraction of the cost you'd expect.

1) Vietnam: Luxe Living for Less

Vietnam continues to charm Aussie travellers with its vibrant cities, tranquil countryside, and stunning coastline. But it’s not just the scenery that’s appealing—your money stretches a long way here. With one Australian dollar converting to around 16,000 Vietnamese dong, you can enjoy full-course meals, local experiences, and boutique stays without denting your bank account.

Dining out is an experience in itself, with a three-course meal for two costing just $37. Prefer street food? You’ll find delicious bowls of pho or banh mi for under $4. Local beers can be enjoyed for less than $2, making it one of the best value destinations in the region.

2) Indonesia: The Bali Bonus

Bali remains a firm favourite among Australians, not only for its lush landscapes and spiritual culture but also for its affordability. With one Aussie dollar getting you nearly 11,000 Indonesian Rupiah, your budget will go a long way whether you're enjoying beach clubs or exploring temples.

A delicious sit-down dinner for two comes in at about $30, and cheap eats start from as little as $5. Beers are around $4, and while imported alcohol is pricier, overall costs are still low enough to keep your holiday spending light.

3) Thailand: Paradise Without the Price Tag

From bustling Bangkok to the tranquil beaches of Phuket and Krabi, Thailand offers a little bit of everything. And thanks to a favourable exchange rate—one dollar equals around 21 Thai Baht—your travel dollars work harder.

A basic local dinner costs roughly $5.20, while a meal at an upscale restaurant will set you back around $46 for two. With countless accommodation options and cultural attractions at a low cost, Thailand remains one of the most affordable tropical escapes.

4) Turkiye: East Meets West in Affordable Style

Turkiye may be a long flight away, but its value makes it well worth the journey. The Turkish Lira’s recent drop in value means more spending power for Australian travellers. With one Aussie dollar buying about 23.75 liras, you’ll be surprised how far your budget can stretch.

You can enjoy a tasty local meal in Istanbul for as little as $17, while a more refined dining experience for two will average around $80. Turkiye also delivers unforgettable experiences, from ancient ruins to hot air ballooning over Cappadocia, without the high price tag.

5) Colombia: Culture and Colour on a Budget

Colombia is ideal for adventurous travellers looking for vibrant culture, historical cities, and natural beauty—all at affordable prices. One Australian dollar gets you approximately 2,630 Colombian pesos, allowing you to travel, eat, and stay in style without breaking the bank.

Street food and casual dining options abound, with meals costing around $10. Even in upscale settings, a dinner for two comes in at about $45. Local beers are under $3, leaving more room in the budget to explore Bogotá, Medellín, or the Caribbean coast.

Travel Smart, Spend Less

Whether you're seeking cultural discovery, culinary delights, or beachside relaxation, these five countries prove you don’t need a huge budget to have a rewarding travel experience. With strong exchange rates and low daily costs, each destination offers incredible value—perfect for Aussies looking to maximise their next overseas adventure.
