Established in 1993, the World Travel Awards celebrate excellence across all sectors of the international travel and tourism industry. Te Pae Christchurch was recognised at the World Travel Awards Asia and Oceania Gala Ceremony; a black-tie event held at the InterContinental Grand Stanford in Hong Kong on 13th October.

Te Pae Christchurch was voted by the travel industry, media and the public as Oceania’s leading conference centre, ahead of some of the region’s landmark convention centres, including the International Convention Centre Sydney, Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, Cairns Convention Centre and Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre. Tourism attractions, airlines, airports and hotels from across Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific were recognised at the Oceania leg of the awards, with Christchurch Airport and the George Hotel also finalists from the Canterbury region.

Te Pae Christchurch General Manager Ross Steele says the whole Te Pae Christchurch team ​was honoured to receive this prestigious award.

“To have our venue acknowledged on the world stage is a moment of immense pride and a true testament to the dedication, passion, and excellence our team has poured into every event since we opened our doors just three and a half years ago,” says Ross Steele.

Mr Steele says the organisation was particularly pleased to be recognised in a category that represented such high quality, internationally recognised convention centres which are shaping the future of global events.

“It truly is extraordinary to be held in such esteemed company. The work of the other finalists in our category has inspired and influenced us, and we’re extremely proud to stand alongside them.”

Gaining international recognition at what is considered to be the world’s leading tourism award would not be possible without the commitment, vision and support of Crown Infrastructure Delivery and the people of Christchurch, Ross Steele says.

“This recognition is not just for us – it’s for Christchurch, New Zealand. Our venue was born from a bold vision of regeneration, proudly Crown-owned and built to breathe new life into this remarkable city. Te Pae Christchurch has also been selected as a World nominee in the World Travel Awards 2025 – the highest category in the programme. Voting on the awards, which can be cast by travel professionals, media and tourism consumers, runs from 6th – 26th October, with the winners announced on 6th December.
