Set in a bustling New York restaurant, First Date follows blind date newbies Aaron and Casey as their evening unfolds into a rollercoaster of revelations, awkward silences, unexpected confessions, and surprise musical numbers. As their nerves (and drinks) settle, a chorus of voices from their pasts — including exes, overprotective family members, and social media distractions — appear in hilariously imaginative ways.

With catchy songs, quick-fire dialogue, and a script that walks the fine line between hilarious and heartfelt, First Date is a relatable snapshot of romantic misadventures that every audience can connect with.

MEET THE FINEST REAL T. REX EVER SEEN IN AUSTRALIA

One of the world’s largest and most complete Tyrannosaurus rex fossils is the prehistoric star of an internationally touring exhibition that opens this Friday 28 June at Melbourne Museum.

Victoria the T. rex features the biggest and best example of a real T. rex fossil to ever be shown in Australia, and the first ever in Victoria. Open until 20 October in an Australian exclusive, the much-anticipated exhibition transports visitors back in time 66 million years ago, to the age of the Cretaceous when dinosaurs roamed Earth.

The centrepiece of the exhibition is Victoria’s striking and pristinely preserved skeleton. Impressive in size and completion, the fossil is composed of 199 bones, towers over us at 3.6 metres tall and spans more than 12 metres in length. Victoria’s real, immense skull – weighing in at a massive 139kg – is too heavy to be mounted on the body of the skeleton and will be displayed separately so that visitors can come face-to-face with one of the most fearsome animals of all time.

Through state-of-the-art technologies including augmented reality, 3D projection mapping and interactive elements, Victoria the T. rex grants visitors a rare and captivating glimpse into the world of Tyrannosaurus rex. Learn how the species may have experienced smell and sight through multisensory installations, and don’t just listen to what a T. rex may have sounded like – feel it in your bones!

Victoria’s momentous arrival makes Melbourne Museum the only place on Earth where visitors can get up close to not one, but two of the finest examples of real giants from the Cretaceous. Visitors to the exhibition will also gain access to one of the world’s most complete Triceratops fossils, Horridus, who calls Melbourne Museum home and is on permanent display in the award-winning, dynamic Triceratops: Fate of the Dinosaurs.

At IMAX, Horridus stars in an exclusive new documentary, T.REX 3D, that features Melbourne Museum’s beloved Triceratops specimen and Museums Victoria Research Institute palaeontologist Dr Erich Fitzgerald. Propelling Museums Victoria onto 120 IMAX screens globally and narrated by Sam Neill, the documentary sets up a climactic battle between Triceratops and the tyrant lizard king in epic IMAX 3D.

On Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 June dino-lovers are invited to celebrate Victoria’s arrival to Melbourne Museum with the Opening Weekend Dinosaur Party presented as part of Playbound, the vibrant new children’s festival taking over the City of Melbourne these school holidays. The dino-mite events program includes a dino disco, T. rex mask making, a scavenger hunt, fossil pop-ups and T. rex talks for kids.

Those hungry for more can head to Dino Bites – an American-inspired pop-up diner at Melbourne Museum. Visitors can sink their teeth into juicy burgers, fresh salads, creamy soft serves and tasty ‘Happy Bites’ kids’ lunch boxes. Two Artists Tour Muswellbrook: Liz Anelli and Mario Minichiello

'Two Artists Tour Muswellbrook' is the culmination of the 2019 Muswellbrook Artist in Residency Program. Illustrator Liz Anelli, along with artist and educator Mario Minichiello interpret a sense of place, exploring how 'the visitor' views the diverse Muswellbrook local area. 

Each artist brings their own perspective and approach to the subject allowing an expansive depiction of the landscapes and settlements across the region. 

Through studying in the field and creating works 'en plein air,' the exhibition encapsulates the Artists’ impression of the Upper Hunter with added wit and whimsy.

Muswellbrook Art Prize 2022

Since 1958, the Muswellbrook Art Prize has grown and evolved and is today one of the richest prizes for painting in regional Australia. 

Finalists for the 2022 Muswellbrook Art Prize vie for a total of $70,000 prize money across three prize categories: Painting ($50,000 acquisitive), Works on Paper ($10,000 acquisitive), and Ceramics ($10,000 acquisitive).

The Cancelled BLUESFEST Rescheduled to New Location and Date

Everyone was saddened when they heard the news that BLUESFEST was cancelled at Bryon Bay this Easter weekend.

The Good news is that it has bee rescheduled to take place next weekend, from Friday 11 April to Monday 13 April. The new date will allow the many campers to pack up their tents or caravans and have a leisurely drive for the start of the new BLUESFEST.

BLUESFEST will now be held at Muswellbrook in NSW. Muswellbrook was chosen for several reasons. Firstly, it is COVID free. Secondly, there are few other activities happening in Muswellbrook this weekend, unlike the other 51 action packed weekends of the year. Thirdly, the weather will be sunny and with no rain forecast. The fine layer of coal dust in the air will enhance the quality of the music. Fourthly, there are plenty of ideal outdoor event venues made possible with all the regenerated coal mining lands abundance of newly planted trees for shade. Fifthly, those unable to drive to Muswellbrook can take advantage of the frequent 2 train services from Sydney. 

The Mayor of Muswellbrook said "I am delighted that BLUESFEST will be held in Muswellbrook next weekend. We will be pleased to welcome 15,000 visitors to our town. The influx of visitors will be a boost to the local economy, as we all realise that the reserves of coal will be mined out in the coming years."

The Entertainment and Arts Officer for the Hunter said "With the diverse range of musical entertainment provided over the 4 days of BLUESFEST, there will be something for everyone. Beautiful relaxing music heals the body and soul. It is unfortunate that the local medical practice will have to close down after BLUESFEST as everyone will be healed and have no need of doctors. The benefit of BLUESFEST to Muswellbrook will be increased happiness, less stress and a sense of hope."

The State Minister for Agriculture and Cows said "I am excited that BLUESFEST is coming to Muswellbrook. We all know about how contented cows produce more milk after listening to music. Muswellbrook is Australia's leading dairy area in terms of milk production. The local milk factory will be looking forward to he extra amounts of milk being trucked to the factory in the weeks following BLUESFEST."

The Managing Director of one of the 7 local bakeries in Muswellbrook said "BLUESFEST patrons will able to sample the vast arrange of delicious delectable delights freshly home baked in Muswellbrook and be available for pick up or delivery to the BLUESFEST music grounds." 

Organizers of BLUESFEST are happy that it will be held in the new location. If it proves to popular, the decision will be made to permanently locate BLUESFEST to Muswellbrook in future years.

Historic Building in Muswellbrook (The St Vincent De Paul Centre)

The two-storey brick and stone building dates from the 1850s when built for John Maddy, ex convict from St. Heliers. 

Edward White bought it in 1860, and when Carl Brecht purchased the property in 1882 he erected stone wine cellars at the rear. 

Brecht had established a vineyard named Rosemount on the site of the present-day Rosemount near Denman and in 1882 won gold for his wine at the International Exhibition in Bordeaux. 

Many changes have been made over the years with the building operating as T. J. Purvis’s cordial factory and then as S. J. Torpey’s bakery. 

The weatherboard shop was moved to this site around 1919. It is currently used as the St. Vincent de Paul Centre.
