EMITT Excitement Swept Through Tourism Sector

 
Turkey has become the 6th most visited country in the world in 2012 with nearly 30 million visitors, while EMITT Fair, which plays an important role in the promotion of Turkey, took the 5th place in the tourism fairs list, with the 128 thousand visitors it hosted in 2012.

East Mediterranean International Tourism and Travel Fair EMITT, which will be held for  the 17th time between January 24 and 27 in TÜYAP, was created by Ekin Fuar in 90’s, which is considered to be the infancy period of the Turkish tourism, and has started a new era in  tourism fairs.

EMITT Fair, which got the finger on the pulse of tourism in Turkey since 1997, has managed, in a brief period of time, to become on of the renowned fairs in the world.Today being in the 5th largest fair in the world, EMITT kept the pace with Turkey’s growthin tourism and proved its strength by becoming one of the most prominent fairs in its target area consisting of Mediterranean, Middle East, South East Europe and Asia.

Target: 60 million foreign tourists - The Director of Ekin Fuar, Hacer Aydın states that the number of foreign tourist visiting Turkey was 9.586.000 and the amount of revenues generated $9.161.000.000; and as of2011 the number of tourist visiting Turkey had reached to 29.343.000 and the revenuesto $23 billion, and stresses the important role of EMITT, who for 17 years brought the professionals of tourism sector to Turkey and held many grand fairs, in this success. Aydın,who indicates that statistically, the number of visitors of the cities, regions and countieswho participated in EMITT had increased 7 or 8 times, and underlines the importance ofthe field-specific fairs in tourism, stating their pointing to their ability bring the target groupwith service providers and to the wide experience and knowledge EMITT has in this respect.

While noting the significance of the success Turkey gained by becoming the 6th countryin the world tourism ranking, Aydın also stated that Turkey falls short of its real potential,and concluded that Turkey has the necessary historical, cultural and natural treasures inorder to reach the aim of 60 million tourists, which now seems to be a challenging one, ifimplemented the right promotional strategies.
