Come along to the Muswellbrook Indoor Sports Centre in
Rutherford Road on Saturday 26 January 2013 to celebrate Australia Day. The
program of activities is -
- 7am Free BBQ Breakfast
- 9am Introduction to Official Party, Acknowledgment of Country, Prayer, Flag Unfurl, National Anthem, Welcome by the Mayor, Citizenship Ceremony
- 9.15am Nomination certificates presented
- 9.25am Presentation of Cultural Awards and Art Award
- 9.35am Performance by Muswellbrook Shire Concert Band
- 9.45am Presentation of Environment Award
- 9.50am Presentation of Sports Awards
- 10.05am Performance by Rhythm Dance Studio
- 10.15am Australia Day Ambassador Address
- 10.25am Presentation of Citizen Awards
At the conclusion of the Ceremony everyone is invited to
attend the Muswellbrook Aquatic Centre for free admission and fun activities.
Muswellbrook Shire Council's Australia Day Ambassador is
The Honourable Justice Stephen Gageler, who was appointed as a Justice of the
High Court of Australia in October 2012. He was previously a Barrister based in
Sydney, and the Solicitor General of Australia, the Commonwealth's second
highest ranking officer.

Justice Gageler was born and raised in Sandy Hollow where
his father and grandfather were sawmillers operating his grandfathers company.
Justice Gageler's primary school education was at Giants Creek Primary School.
His secondary education was at Muswellbrook High School.
He earned a Bachelor of Economics from the Australian
National University in 1980 and earned a Bachelor of Law with first Class
Honours in 1982. He became an associate for High Court Justice Sir Anthony
Mason. He then studied at Harvard Law School, graduating with a Masters of Law
in 1987.
