The recent addition of a fifth Airbus A330 aircraft to its modern fleet is set to provide passengers with unparalleled comfort and convenience on flights to five continents, including destinations in Australia, Kazakhstan, Japan, Korea, and Europe. With weekly flight sales and promotions since the announcement of their Australian launch, flights with Vietjet to various destinations across Vietnam and beyond have bought Australia and Vietnam closer than ever before.

Other key news
  • The airline has transported 20.5 million passengers on 116,000 flights, with domestic transport growing by 20% year-over-year (YOY), leading the airline’s recovery path.

COMO Le Montrachet
The COMO Group is delighted to announce that the newest addition to its global portfolio, COMO Le Montrachet, will open its doors on 15th April 2023. Situated in the heart of Burgundy, one of the world’s most prestigious wine regions, the hotel is a celebration of French gastronomy, hospitality and style.

To create COMO Le Montrachet, COMO has sensitively reimagined Hotel le Montrachet, a 19th century ‘place du village’ inn located in the village of Puligny-Montrachet, Burgundy. The hotel is housed across three heritage buildings arranged around the charming village square which lies just steps from the legendary 'Le Montrachet' vineyard. Guests can choose from 30 individual rooms and suites. For this project, the COMO Group has again collaborated with esteemed designer Paola Navone, who also designed COMO Castello del Nero in Tuscany. Navone’s redesign of COMO Le Montrachet is elegant in its translation of the ‘esprit du lieu’ and complemented by contemporary touches. The overall palette is inspired by the colours of the Burgundy countryside with custom-designed furnishings specially curated for the hotel.

Under the leadership of General Manager, Florian Bonnin, the hotel encompasses the best of COMO. In keeping with the gastronomic traditions of the area, Le Montrachet Restaurant will reopen from 06 April 2023 with Executive Chef, Romain Versino overseeing the menu which will change with the seasons in order to best showcase the produce from local farmers and suppliers.

COMO Le Montrachet is an ideal getaway for oenophiles and wine connoisseurs. In addition to Montrachet, one of the most renowned vineyards in the world, four Grand Cru vineyards and seventeen Premier Cru vineyards lie close to the hotel as well as the villages of Chassagne-Montrachet, Meursault, Volnay and Pommard. The hotel’s own sommelier, André Berthier, is available to take guests on private wine tastings and trips to local wineries. Guests can also enjoy wine tasting workshops where they will visit a vineyard to learn about the vines and enjoy wine samplings in the vineyards with the sommelier or vintner.

Burgundy also has much more to offer visitors than just fine wine and is a year-round destination. From cooking classes and bicycle tours, to scenic hikes and hot air balloon rides over the vineyards, the region has something for everyone. Highlights include the local Beaune jazz and classical music festival in July and August, the period “vendange” in mid-August where the grapes are harvested, and the vivid change of colours in the vines in both Spring and Autumn are sights to behold.

“What differentiates COMO as a global lifestyle brand is our ability to develop our brand presence in truly unique locations. This is the case with COMO Le Montrachet”, comments Olivier Jolivet CEO of COMO.

COMO Le Montrachet lies in the heart of the Burgundy countryside, it is easily accessible. The hotel is only a one-and-a-half-hour drive from Lyon or a forty-minute drive from the private airport of Dijon. From Paris, the hotel is a three-hour drive or is an one-and-a-half-hour train ride by the high speed TGV train to Le Creusot.

Icy giants on parade in Canada

Witness the extraordinary parade of icy monoliths as they make their way along Iceberg Alley in Newfoundland and Labrador from May to September, when temperatures are warm enough for them to break off but not warm enough for them to melt entirely. On a sunny day, these 10,000-year-old glacial giants can be viewed along the northern and eastern coasts, with colours ranging from snow-white to deep aquamarine. Read on for three ways to experience these cool beauties.

  • Get up close with these natural goliaths on a boat tour, or paddle along in a sea kayak. Experience the rugged beauty of the coastline as you explore sea caves, inlets, and jaw-dropping fjords.
  • Take a hike along 29,000 kilometres of coastline and feel a shiver up your spine as you witness a sparkling iceberg drift down Iceberg Alley against a soundtrack of boreal songbirds.
  • As the sun sets, head back to town and sip on Iceberg Vodka, made from the purest water on the planet. Iceberg hunters harvest the ancient ice, comprised of water frozen long before industrial pollution, creating a uniquely smooth, quintessential Canadian vodka.

Icebergs are not to be underestimated. Remember, In 1912 only 400 miles from the Newfoundland coast, a typical Atlantic Canada iceberg sank the infamous Titanic.

Roughly ninety percent of icebergs seen off Newfoundland and Labrador come from the glaciers of western Greenland, while the rest come from glaciers in Canada's Arctic. Their sheer size will amaze you, and that's without seeing the ninety percent still below the surface of the ocean.

Insider’s tip: When encountering an iceberg from a kayak or boat, it’s best to keep your distance. It’s difficult to know how immense an iceberg is under the surface and you want to avoid being hit by loose ice or colliding with a submerged chunk of iceberg.

BOOMING LGBTQ+ TRAVEL MARKET

Sydney hotels have ensured a warm welcome for visitors for WorldPride.

Pride festivities ranged from drag concierges at Ovolo Woolloomooloo to a lobby photo exhibition at Manly Pacific, drag shows at The Star, rainbow floral decorations at Pier One Sydney Harbour and many more.

Research by booking website Expedia shows the annual LGBTQ+ travel spend now exceeds approximately $309 billion – with around $9.8 billion of it in Australia alone.

Expedia Group VP Market Management APAC Michael Dykes said: "The LGBTQ+ community over-indexes on disposable income and a love of travel more than many other demographics.

"Businesses that aren’t platforming inclusivity, particularly during WorldPride, are set to miss out on a large piece of the incoming traveller economy.

"Expedia Group data suggests that up to 60 per cent of travellers intend to head to Sydney from international destinations for WorldPride, which means an influx of visitors with increased spending intentions and longer planned stays than domestic travellers.

"In fact, international travellers during the WorldPride period tend to stay more than 60 per cent longer than local visitors."

You’ll even receive a video of the event to befuddle your friends and family with for years to come!

7. FANNY’S RESTAURANT & CAFÉ

The Academy Museum is so filled with conversation points that you’ll likely need a break and chat during your visit. Fanny’s Restaurant & Café is the place to digest all you’ve seen and discuss faves and raves with companions. Developed by celebrated restaurateurs Bill Chait and Carl Schuster, the striking two-story space features both small-group and communal tables, an art deco-style bar, and an intimate lounge area with cozy curved booths.

Enjoy cuisine and cocktails by Chef Raphael Francois and Julian Cox, respectively, amid the work of local artists and artisans. A fitting and spectacular mural by L.A. artist Konstantin Kakanias wraps around the dining area, celebrating film and music legends from classical Hollywood to the present day.

8. BACKDROP: AN INVISIBLE ART

The double-height Hurd Gallery is needed to spotlight both the artistry and the contested imagery of a monumental Mt. Rushmore backdrop used in Alfred Hitchcock’s canonical 1959 spy thriller “North by Northwest.” This neck-craning exhibit also serves as a through-provoking reminder of oft-overlooked role of such literally behind-the-scenes creations, and their creators, in the movies that have helped shape our world.

9. ACADEMY MUSEUM STORE

The Academy Museum Store is about as far as you’ll get from the stereotypical fridge-magnets-and-shot-glasses gift shop. Instead, this carefully curated one-off wonder features specially designed merchandise, Oscars memorabilia, and other exclusive film-related treasures: clothing, furniture, accessories, vinyl records, home and office items, posters, maps, illustrations, toys and games, plus an unparalleled selection of books and catalogues. Academy members including costume designer Ruth E. Carter, creative director I. Javier Ameijeiras, and the legendary Spike Lee have complimented their cinematic work by designing items available nowhere else, while the store’s many California-based partners include Amoeba Music, candlemaker Flores Lane, and lifestyle brand Poketo.

Bear Butte State Park, Black Elk Peak and Wind Cave National Park are also significant sites to tribes in the area. Lakota legend states that the first man and animals on earth emerged from Wind Cave.

The Mahpiya Luta (Red Cloud) Heritage Center, located on the Pine Ridge Reservation, is home to the annual Red Cloud Art Show. The art show is the largest and longest-running Native art exhibition of its kind – and one of only a few held in a Native American community. Hundreds of artists from tribal nations across North America have shared their work through the Red Cloud Art Show, in categories ranging from painting and photography to beadwork and quillwork.

Just outside Badlands National Park, the Oglala Lakota Living History Village provides visitors with a picture of Lakota life through the decades. Local Oglala guides share historical facts and modern-day cultural knowledge as they take groups through the various types of housing structures utilized by the Lakota people. You’ll see firsthand how the dwellings were maintained and the conditions in which the people lived.

The Sisseton Wahpeton Wacipi is the second-oldest powwow in the country, celebrating its 155th anniversary in July 2023. South Dakota is also home to the annual Black Hills Powwow, one of the premier American Indian cultural events in the United States, welcoming thousands of dancers every year.
