Indian Tourism Board's Year End Review shows Global Tourist Arrival Rises by 6%

A global economic slump notwithstanding, the number of international visitors to India are steadily on the rise. The number of foreign tourist arrivals in the country till November 2012 showed an increase of about 6 % as compared to the year 2011. From January-November 2012, 58.99 lakh travellers came to India as opposed to 55.72 lakh in the previous year. This generated increased foreign exchange earnings from the tourism industry.

There has been a growth of 22.1% as foreign exchange earnings rose from Rs.68,721 crore in the year 2011 to Rs.83,938 crore  in 2012.

A number of innovative ventures and campaigns were launched in 2012 to further boost the tourism of the country. The campaign clean India aims to enhance the image of country abroad. The Tourism ministry signed MoUs with the Ministries of Railways, Civil Aviation and Information & Broadcasting to unitedly improve the tourism prospects of India.
