Navigating the Mekong: My Journey on the RV Toum Tiou 2

RV Toum Tiou 2
As I embarked on the 9-day RV Toum Tiou 2 Mekong River Cruise from Vietnam to Cambodia, I was filled with excitement and anticipation. Traveling solo, I wondered what experiences awaited me on this majestic river. The Toum Tiou 2, with its elegant design and warm hospitality, proved to be the perfect companion on my journey.

Discovering Ho Chi Minh City

My adventure began on day one with a tour of Vietnams largest bustling city, Ho Chi Minh City, formerly known as Saigon. After an overnight hotel stay we departed on a luxurious coach to board the RV Toum Tiou 2 on the Mekong Delta. The crew welcomed me with warm smiles and refreshing drinks. As we set sail, lush countryside views and riverside houses came into view.

Stilt Houses

Exploring the Mekong Delta

The cruise navigated the winding Mekong Delta, revealing vibrant floating markets, quaint villages, and ancient temples. Local guides shared insights into the region's history, culture, and daily life. On Thoi Son Island, also known as Unicorn Island, I rode on sampans (small flat bottomed boats) and went on a bike ride to explore and admire the magnificent fruit orchards in the area. In Cai Be I watched crafts people making local products, while in Sa Dec I strolled through picturesque streets lined with French colonial architecture and visited the Ancient House and Cao Dai Temple.

Royal Palace

Border Crossing

As we sailed up the Mekong River I passed many house built above the water on stilts and many fish farms. A we left Vietnam and crossed into Cambodia the landscape shift. The Mekong's tranquil waters reflected the sky's hues, and rural villages seemed frozen in time. Our guide explained the complex history and resilience of the Cambodian people. In Phnom Penh, the capital city of Cambodia, I visited the Royal Palace and National Museum. In Phnom Penh, Cambodia's capital, I visited the Royal Palace and National Museum, gaining deeper understanding of the region's rich heritage.

We shared stories, played games, sang songs and explored together, forging lasting connections. The passengers in the 14 cabins on this cruise were couples from Australia and Turkey, and solo travellers from Australia, Vietnam, Cambodia and Switzerland. They all spoke good english and were a joy to talk with onboard and when we were on the shore excursions.

Indonesia: Bound by Shadows, The Restless Pocong

Indonesia
In Indonesia, the tale of the Pocong is one of their most spine-chilling urban legends. The Pocong is the spirit of someone buried in a traditional Islamic burial shroud, wrapped very tightly from head to toe, which prevents them from moving freely. According to the legend, if the burial shroud isn’t untied at the time of burial, the spirit becomes trapped in its own body, unable to pass on to the afterlife. As a result, the Pocong hops through the night, searching for someone to release its bindings.

Sightings of the Pocong are often reported in quiet villages or on the outskirts of bustling cities, where it appears as a pale, shrouded figure hopping or gliding eerily over the ground. Locals believe that if you encounter a Pocong, you mustn’t make eye contact, as it may follow you until dawn. This terrifying figure has become a symbol of unresolved rest, leaving those who hear the legend wary of dark streets, wondering if the next shadow they see could be the Pocong seeking release, or revenge!

Balloon Museum - Let's Fly Now in LA

Let’s Fly at Ace Mission Studios
Monumental artworks and international artists have come together to create an extraordinary inflatable experience!

Balloon Museum presents: Let’s Fly at Ace Mission Studios in Los Angeles, an original concept featuring works from the most inflated to the most colorful. Always at the avant-garde, the curatorial team is committed to redefining the way art is experienced by pushing back the boundaries of art installation and the classical interactions we know. Synonymous with freedom, flight and access, the Let’s Fly experience takes spectators on an unprecedented sensory journey. Centered on physical interaction, the presented works offer an escape into a universe of freedom never before imagined. Play, touch and feel your way through atmospheres with Cyril Lancelin with his monumental, immersive and luminous labyrinth, to Rub Kandy and his zany tribe of GINJOS, the bouncing spheres by Motorefisico and delve into a completely new terrain created by Camilla Falsini with her original colorful graphic creations. Submerge yourself in hypnotic visual effects, transitioning from light, colorful worlds exemplified by artists like Michael Shaw and his aerial installation entitled Lava Lamp as well as Sasha Frolova’s intoxicating kaleidoscopic fountain.

For the Let’s Fly exhibition in Los Angeles, Filthy Luker invites you to land on an extra-terrestrial planet with their two artworks, Eye Scream and Octopus Attack. The idea behind this exhibition is to provide visitors with a unique, made-to-measure experience. Marvel at the graceful bubbles of Italian collective Quiet Ensemble, draw with the help of the ADA sculpture conceived and designed by German-Polish artist Karina Smigla-Bobinski, and admire the Floating Giants by the artist Max Streicher. Plunge into the thousands of black spheres of Hyperstudio collective, listen to the musical respirations of Australian studio Eness’s sculptures and gaze up to the installation of Korean artist MyeongBeom Kim. Reflective environments appear on the path with the work of Tadao Cern and his BB series of minimalist sculptures and the obscure, moving inflatable creature by the artist SpY.

In this exhibition-experience, artworks stimulate our senses through touch, sight and sound. Having fun while discovering transdisciplinary works of art through immersive proposals is the concept of the Balloon Museum. Since 2022, artistic propositions have expanded. Today, inflatable art appears in digital projects, with the Ouchhh collective for example and its Data Art experiments, or with the Sila Sveta collective, inviting visitors into their utopian worlds through animated pop images. Founded in 2020, Balloon Museum is an exhibition born in Rome, Italy. Winner of the prestigious 2022 BEA Best Proprietary Format award, for several years it has been developing programming focused on inflatable art, an artistic movement that emerged in the mid-20th century and is driven by collectives of architects, artists and designers.

For Let’s Fly in Los Angeles, the artists selected belong to the new generation of this movement. These artists are aware of the need to renew exhibition formats, and are constantly seeking to push the limits of this material, which can be transformed at will. In addition, you’ll discover a space devoted to the history of inflatables, from the first experiments by the Montgolfier brothers in the 18th century to the famous Balloon Dog series by American artist Jeff Koons.

My Asian Adventure: A Month-Long Journey Through Thailand, Vietnam, and Cambodia

RV Toum Tiou 11
I recently embarked on an unforgettable four-week journey to three Asian countries, exploring the vibrant cultures, stunning landscapes, and warm hospitality of Thailand, Vietnam, and Cambodia.

I had a great time in Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia during my 4 weeks there. The highlights were staying at several new hotels and going on a Mekong River Cruise on the RV Toum Tiou 11. Over the next few days I will write about the places I visited and the things I saw and did in Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia.

Mercure Bangkok Surawong
I started my month long holiday by flying from Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport to Bangkok, the capitol city of Thailand. The first leg of the Scoot flight was an overnight flight, departing Sydney at 20.55 and arriving at Singapore Changi Airport at 3:20 in the morning. I then enjoyed the company of other travellers in an airport lounge until boarding my next Scoot flight at 12.55 in the afternoon. (The cast and crew from the TV show Travel Guides were also in the lounge.)

After landing at 15.30 at the Suvarnabhumi Bangkok International Airport it was a short walk to the efficient Airport Rail Link to get a  train to the city. I then changed trains to BTS trains and alighted at a station near the Mercure Bangkok Surawong hotel, where I was staying in for the first few days in Bangkok. I enjoyed my time at this brand new hotel very much, where I indulged in delicious meals and relaxing amenities.

Moxy Bangkok Ratchaprasong
I then stayed at another new hotel, the Moxy Bangkok Ratchaprasong. I enjoyed the wonderful atmosphere of the check-in area, bar, lounge and restaurant on the 9th floor and my room high up on the 24th floor.

Apart from sightseeing, I was Hosted Media at the IT&CM Asia travel conference held at Bangkok Convention Centre at CentralWorld. Here I connected with industry professionals from around the world, savoring local flavors and inspiring talks. On he evening before the conference I was hosted with other delegates at Top Golf Megacity.

Crowne Plaza
For my last nights in Bangkok I stayed at the elegant Crowne Plaza Bangkok Lumpini Park where I enjoyed a comfortable room, refreshing pool, and delectable meals.

It was time to say goodby to Thailand, so I took the train to the Don Mueang International Airport to board my Air Asia flight at 13.40. I arrived at the Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Saigon Vietnam at 15.20. The public bus took me into the city centre and it was just a short walk to the Sofitel Saigon Plaza hotel where I stayed for several days. It was then time to leave this wonderful luxurious hotel to try a backpackers hostel. At the Sakura Hostel Saigon I enjoyed the company of the other international backpackers staying in Saigon.

Sofitel Saigon Plaza
The highlight of my trip was the 8 day RV Toum Tiou 11 cruise along the Mekong River form Vietnam to Cambodia. I shared this unforgettable journey with fellow 13 other fellow travelers from Australia, Turkey, Switzerland, Vietnam and Cambodia. I enjoyed the various shore excursions to see various interesting spots in Vietnam and Cambodia. The gourmet food on board with delicious, with buffet breakfasts, lunches and 4 course evening meals.

Regency Angkor Hotel
After disembarking the cruise ship in Cambodia I stayed at the Regency Angkor Hotel in Siem Reap.

I then took a Giant Ibis bus to Cambodia's capitol city, Phnom Penh where I checked into the Anik Palace Hotel. lt was then another Giant Ibis bus ride back to Saigon, where I boarded my overnight Jetstar flight at 10.40, landing back Sydney arriving at 11.10. It was a wonderful flight, as I slept all the way.

This flight ended my wonderful month long holiday in Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia. In upcoming articles in The Holiday and Travel Magazine I will delve into the highlights of my journey, sharing insider tips and inspiring stories. Join me as I relive the magic of Thailand, Vietnam, and Cambodia in The Holiday and Travel Magazine, where I will reflect on the incredible experiences and memories forged during my month-long Asian adventure. If you're interested, please read, and you too may be inspired to go to these Asian countries.

Howdy Queensland! American Airlines touches down in Brisbane

American Airlines
American Airlines
made history at Brisbane Airport (BNE) with the arrival of its inaugural non-stop service, flight AA7, from Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW). This seasonal service in partnership with Qantas brings Texas and Brisbane closer together, while boosting tourism and trade across the Pacific.

Brisbane is the second Australian destination for American Airlines, with the route the longest by distance in both the airline’s global network and on Brisbane Airport’s growing network map. The touchdown of the Boeing 787-9 was broadcast globally, with the livestream giving viewers a front row window seat through “runway-cam”.

The new service is supported by the Attracting Aviation Investment Fund. The fund, comprising $100 million from the State Government and $100 million from Queensland’s international airports, was established to speed up the recovery for the tourism sector.

Starting today with 5 flights per week in each direction, American Airlines will increase to daily flights from December through to the end of March.

Brisbane Airport CEO, Gert-Jan de Graaff,

welcomed the new airline and route and the strategic opportunities they’ll deliver for both business and leisure travellers.

“Today’s arrival of American Airlines from Dallas-Fort Worth is a landmark moment for Brisbane and Queensland,” de Graaff said.

“They say there are few things bigger than Texas. Well, Queensland is three times bigger than Texas, but we share industries like agriculture, energy, biotechnology and advanced manufacturing.

“From the Lone Star State to the Sunshine State, this new connection between two hubs unlocks incredible potential on both sides of the Pacific,” he added.

In FY24 the U.S. was the #1 trading partner for freight in the belly of passenger aircraft at Brisbane Airport, with daily exports from Brisbane to the USA averaging 10 tonnes, primarily consisting of beef, fresh seafood, fruit, vegetables and cosmetics.

Imports from the USA to Brisbane averaged 17 tonnes per day, including machinery, mining equipment and electric car parts.

The expansion of American Airlines to Brisbane will further boost freight capacity.

Passengers arriving on the first flight received a warm Brisbane welcome, with cookies baked by Brisbane viral sensation Brooki Bakehouse, which now has a Brisbane Airport store.

American Airlines Vice President International Operations, José Freig:

“The excitement we saw when we first announced our new Brisbane flight back at the start of the year was overwhelming, so to have finally landed in the Sunshine State from Dallas-Fort Worth is a momentous occasion for American.

“With this new route, our customers in Brisbane will have access to our largest hub, from where they can connect to explore unexplored and much-loved destinations around the world.”

American U.S. Consul General Christine Elder:

“To have such an important new link between the U.S. and such an important and growing Australian city is truly exciting. With aviation capacity increasing, the long and strong ties between our nations will continue to grow. Not only will these new routes increase connections between our citizens and residents, but these routes will also increase two-way trade with cargo and business-class travelers.

“Americans love coming to see the World Heritage Sites in Queensland and points beyond, and this route also offers a new range of American adventures to Australians departing from Queensland. We couldn’t be happier to support this expansion.”

Tourism and Events Queensland CEO Patricia O'Callaghan:

“This is a touch-down of epic proportions. Texas is the second-most populated state of America with around 30 million residents and American Airlines is the biggest airline in the world by passengers carried, so this arrival couldn’t be more exciting for Brisbane and more broadly Queensland.

“TEQ has been marketing Queensland in partnership with American Airlines (AA) in recent months to build awareness of this air access and today is a big celebration to welcome the first eager AA passengers direct here to Brisbane.

“With the United States being Queensland’s second biggest international visitor market and growing rapidly – up 53 per cent in the last financial year – we are looking forward to this flight route being a huge boost to Queensland’s visitor economy.”

Dallas-Fort Worth Airport CEO Sean Donohue:

"We are excited to launch the new nonstop flight from DFW to Brisbane, which connects North Texas with another dynamic city in Australia and drives significant additional opportunities for trade, tourism, and investment.

“DFW is becoming the global epicenter of the oneworld Alliance, and this new route is another example of how American Airlines and its partners are offering travellers even greater access and convenience from American’s hometown.”

Departure to Texas

The inaugural flight AA8 Brisbane to Dallas-Fort Worth service will depart Tuesday morning at 8:05am.

As part of the American–Qantas joint business partnership, customers will be able to connect to more than 200 destinations across the U.S., Mexico, the Caribbean and Latin America.

Brisbane Airport now has direct connections to 32 international destinations and will on Monday evening see the launch of a new Qantas service to Manila.

Brisbane Airport is connected to 62 domestic ports, more than any other Australian airport, with 53 regular passenger services and 9 charter ports.

Go trekking around Dong Van Commune, Binh Lieu District

trekking around Dong Van Commune
The best way to discover Binh Lieu is by trekking through the mountains, terraced fields, and Dao villages. Binh Lieu district in cooperation with tourism businesses to design these private trekking tours which are expected to offer foreign tourists unique experience.

Located in the northeast, more than 100km away from the centre of Ha Long city and right next to the border with China, the mountainous district of Binh Lieu has a peaceful atmosphere and spectacular landscapes of untouched beauty.

In July and August, the district is decorated with the golden colour of terraced fields as they enter harvest season, while in March and April, trẩu flowers (Vernicia Montana) bloom, which are only found in Binh Lieu, and the whole region bursts in an array of stunning colours.

Though it is beautiful in every season, many will like it best in the autumn. Tourists often flock to Binh Lieu to enjoy the beauty of white reed hills, the golden terraced rice fields or visit the Dao villages in the hamlets such as Song Mooc or Khe Tien, the highest and most remote hamlets.

Compared to other forms of tourism like car or motorbike, trekking trips are forms of slow travel that let travellers experience a place more fully and deeply, and a popular recreational activity that provides positive impacts on health and well-being. This type of discovery tourism is especially popular with Western, Korean and Japanese tourists because trekking not only provides a closer look but also gives a feeling of being more immersed in the natural environment and local culture. At the same time, trekking also satisfies tourists' passion for exploring and learning about untouched lands.

As one of the first foreign visitors to explore the trekking route from Song Mooc village to Khe Tien village, Dong Van commune, Binh Lieu district, Alexandre Betrand from France said: “I love the natural scenery here: the poetic golden rice fields, the small, winding roads, winding along the rice fields. I am really interested in the unique ethnic culture. It is truly a wonderful and unforgettable experience.”

Accredited PCOs leading the way for the business events sector impact

The success of the meetings and events industry hinges on its delivery of exceptional outcomes, which is in the hands of accredited Professional Conference Organisers (PCOs) according to global industry leaders.

By maintaining world class standards of event and congress organisation, accredited PCOs are having a significant impact on destination competitiveness, technological advancements of the industries they serve, and the financial viability of major global associations.

James Latham, founder of The Iceberg, presented by Joint Meetings Industry Council (JMIC) and International Association of Professional Congress Organisers (IAPCO) Endorser said those at the top of the PCO world will continue to have a major impact on destinations.

“Events delivered by top PCOs consistently showcase mission-based impacts, outcomes, and legacies – attributes that set them apart from others, and work that leaves a lasting impact.

“That’s why accredited PCOs, such as IAPCO members, will play a crucial role in elevating the competitiveness of destinations, particularly in emerging regions like Latin America, where their expertise and connections will be instrumental,” said Latham.

Jayr Bass, Director of AO Spine, and long-term client of an IAPCO-accredited PCO, highlighted the critical role a PCO’s professional global network plays in expanding the reach and impact of congresses.

“The global network of IAPCO members has been crucial in opening our annual Congress to a worldwide audience. Since partnering with our PCO for our 2015 Congress in Buenos Aires, we’ve shared experiences and challenges, driving each other to excel further,” said Bass.

Alain Pittet, Director, The Geneva Convention Bureau and IAPCO Endorser praised the continuous professional development and education that is a calling card of the world’s top PCOs.

“The industry relies on PCOs being educated and up to date with the latest in congress organising. We want to be sure that associations which have selected Geneva as a destination for their congress get what the best of the best are doing, and this is why we only suggest IAPCO-accredited PCOs.

“IAPCO understands this and provides continuous education and dynamic insight on new trends to their members. This means IAPCO-accredited PCOs can continuously deliver reliable and high-quality service,” said Pittet.

TAT welcomes Air Astana’s inaugural flight from Astana to Phuket

Phuket
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is celebrating growing tourism ties between Kazakhstan and Thailand, hosting a warm reception at Phuket International Airport for Air Astana’s inaugural flight from Astana, Kazakhstan, to Phuket.

Ms. Suladda Sarutilavan, TAT Europe Region Executive Director, hosted the event alongside officials and representatives from key public and private sector agencies in Phuket. Together, they celebrated the landing of Air Astana Flight KC163, which departed from Astana on 26 October at 21:40 local time and touched down in Phuket on 27 October at 07:45.

The flight strengthens Thailand’s appeal to Kazakhstani travellers and marks a new milestone in the thriving tourism relationship between Kazakhstan and Thailand.

“Thailand’s partnership with Air Astana strengthens the bond between our countries and allows Kazakhstani tourists greater access to the world-renowned beaches and cultural treasures of Phuket and beyond. This inaugural flight signifies an exciting step forward in fostering sustainable tourism links with Kazakhstan,” Ms. Suladda said.

Kazakhstan’s national airline, Air Astana, has been in operation for over 20 years, and for this high-demand tourism season, running October 2024 through March 2025, it has scheduled 624 flights to Thailand, including regular and charter flights, to both Bangkok and Phuket.

With an estimated 103,584 seats available, this expanded service is expected to significantly support the growing interest among Kazakhstani tourists in Thailand’s premier beach destinations.

Kazakhstan is among Thailand’s fastest-growing tourism markets, with 172,282 Kazakhstani visitors recorded in 2023—a 190% increase from 2022.

The ongoing growth is a result of strategic tourism cooperation agreements, including the recent bilateral visa exemption allowing Kazakhstani citizens to visit Thailand visa-free for up to 30 days.

From January to 20 October 2024, Thailand welcomed over 136,288 Kazakhstani tourists, marking a 16.22% increase over the same period in 2023.

Phuket, along with Chon Buri, Krabi, and Phang-Nga, remains a preferred destination for these visitors, who tend to stay an average of 9.8 nights and spend around 75,080 Baht per person.

The TAT is committed to supporting continued tourism growth in Kazakhstan, focusing on partnerships with local tour operators and tourism marketing activities. TAT’s ongoing initiatives aim to stimulate demand for Thailand as a leading destination in Southeast Asia for both the winter and summer seasons.

Australia's best coastal walks

Image: Visit Victoria
If you’re a lover of long walks over dunes, along windswept cliffs or with the tide lapping at your ankles, you may have come to the right place. In this article, we've dug up some of the best coastal and beach walks across Australia. We’ve tried not to get too granular, but there’s quite a lot of ground to cover, so grab a hat and sunscreen and let's go get some sand between our toes!

Great Ocean Walk

Great Ocean Road (VIC)
Let's start off strong, with one of the most iconic spots in the whole of Australia. We're sure you've heard of the Great Ocean Road, but the Great Ocean Walk is far-and-away the better way to take in the dramatic coastline of Victoria's south west. The route of the Great Ocean Walk takes you from Apollo Bay, around Cape Otway and into Port Campbell National Park to see check out the Twelve Apostles (and much more) up close. It'll take several days to complete in full, but there are various shorter sections for those whose boots weren't made for walking...
Where to stay: YHA Apollo Bay Eco

Mornington Peninsula Coastal Walk

Mornington Peninsula (VIC)
Image: Derek Rose/Visit Victoria
Wending along the south western edge of the Mornington Peninsula, this 30km trail offers a variety of rugged terrain that should satisfy most serious walkers. You'll pass crumbling cliffs and scrubby vegetation in between long stretches of wind-blown beach, all the while taking in impressive views of the Bass Strait. Only the very experienced (and rapid) walkers will be able to complete the whole thing in a day, but there are again shorter sections that can be done as standalone walks if you're not game for the whole thing.

Bondi to Coogee Walk

Sydney (NSW)
Not everyone has heard of Coogee Beach, but everyone has heard of Bondi, and the paved cliffside walk along the headlands and bays between the two takes you past some of the very best Sydney has to offer. Though only 6km long, you should allow half a day to navigate it due in part to the crowds, and in part to allow for frequent stops to take in the stunning views. We also highly recommend timing your visit for when the Sculpture By the Sea exhibition is on, when part of the walk becomes adorned with all sorts of interesting outdoor artwork.

Brunswick Heads to Byron Beach Walk

Byron Shire (NSW)
Image: Visit Victoria
For the purists, who like their seaside strolls consisting of nothing but sand underfoot, Australia has some pretty excellent options. One of the very best is found in northern NSW, where the walk from the chilled out little town of Brunswick Heads to Byron Bay offers a staggering 10km of uninterrupted beach that you can traverse at any speed; from a leisurely amble all the way to a brisk jog. Either way, if you're wearing shoes, you're doing it wrong.
Where to stay: YHA Byron Bay | YHA Cape Byron

Bathers Way

Newcastle (NSW)
Newcastle is one of NSW's quintessential coastal hubs, with a massive surf culture and a populace that live for the beach despite the area's rapid urbanisation. The 6km-long Bathers Way gives you the perfect snapshot of everything the place is about, taking you from Nobbys Beach to Merewether Ocean Baths (or vice versa), stringing together a number of important local landmarks, picturesque lookouts and military relics. The path is wide and mostly paved, meaning this is a great choice for younger walkers.
Where to stay: YHA Newcastle Beach

Freycinet Peninsula Circuit

Freycinet National Park (TAS)
Okay, so, we've cheated a bit here. We're not suggesting everyone go and undertake the entire 3-day epic loop around the coast of the stunning Freycinet National Park, but we are suggesting that everyone, at the very least, pick a favourite section and give it a crack. Whether it be wandering along the sand of Hazards Beach, recoinnoitring beautiful Wineglass bay, or taking a detour up Mt Amos to one of the most iconic photo spots in Australia, you'll find some truly breathtaking coastal beauty in this corner of Tasmania.
Where to stay: YHA Hobart Central

Southern Ocean Walk

Fleurieu Peninsula (SA)
Image: Ben Edmonds
This is another large-scale, multi-day affair, that we nevertheless recommend you try to experience at least part of. With the trail beginning in Cape Jervis and ending in Encounter Bay (pictured), there's a solid 50km of newly upgraded path to tackle along the southern edge of the Fleurieu Peninsula, though you can also choose to join the trail at various points along its journey. This route also forms part of the unbelievably long Heysen Trail, which continues all the way past Adelaide and on to the Flinders Ranges. Maybe skip that one if you just came for the pretty ocean views.
Where to stay: YHA Port Elliot

Cape Naturaliste to Sugerloaf Rock

Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park (WA)
Finally, something a little more laid back! The path from Cape Naturaliste to Sugarloaf Rock along the Leeuwin-Naturaliste Ridge is a wheelchair accessible gem of bitumen and boardwalk that clocks in at around 3.5km in length. Sugarloaf Rock is a beautiful place to see at sunset, and during winter, you might get lucky and spot some whales, or even Orca. There is also the option of continuing another 120km along the Cape to Cape track (which could have made this list on its own) if you're feeling VERY energetic, though the wheelchair access doesn't continue.
Where to stay: YHA Dunsborough

Karlinyah Bidi

Rottnest Island (WA)
Image: Tourism Western Australia
Rottnest Island is often known for one thing, and it's usually not its walking trails. But for those with a penchant for coastal capers, the former colonial prison island has much more to offer than just Quokkas. The Karlinyah Bidi, as this route is known, follows the north shore of island from Narrow Neck to Little Armstrong Bay, taking you via some of the most gorgeous beaches you'll find this side of Esperance. It's about 6km in length, so easily done in a morning, and yes, there's a decent chance you'll spot a grinning marsupial lounging out in the sun, too!
Where to stay: YHA Fremantle Prison

Cooloola Great Walk

Great Sandy National Park (QLD)
Image: Tourism & Events Queensland
The Cooloola Recreation Area makes up the southern end of Great Sandy National Park, the northern end of which is K'Gari, the world's largest sand island. Unsurprisingly, Cooloola is also a sand-fest, and the landscapes on offer along the 100(ish)km length of the Great Walk as it heads north from Noosa North Shore to Rainbow Beach are unlike anything else you'll find on this list. Immense sand dunes, natural resevoirs and coastal rainforest abound, though if you can't see yourself doing the full 5 day walk, there's plenty of shorter stretches that'll bring you lots of joy. Definitely aim to go in the cooler months.
