HUNTER VALLEY AIRSHOW SET TO TAKE OFF

Hunter Valley Airshow 

An exhilarating, all-ages aviation event will be taken to new heights in the Hunter under a $193,458 grant from the NSW Liberal and Nationals Government’s Regional Events Acceleration Fund Round Two.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW Paul Toole said some of the world’s most talented pilots and about 20,000 tourists would converge on Cessnock for the annual two-day festival, showcasing hair-raising aerobatics, historical warbirds, and amusement rides.

“This funding will deliver essential offsite parking, free shuttle bus services, and improved accessibility to ensure even more people can enjoy this incredible event,” Mr Toole said.

“Events like this put regional NSW on the map, attracting domestic and international tourists who pump serious dollars into the local economy, whether it be putting more heads on beds, filling restaurants and cafés or filling up your car at the local servo.

“This project builds on the more than 100 events the NSW Liberal and Nationals Government has supported through this Fund, attracting an estimated one million visitors to regional NSW.”

Member for the Upper Hunter Dave Layzell said it will be an event not to be missed.

“The Regional Events Acceleration Fund has already pumped $785,548 into the Upper Hunter electorate to support six projects over the past two rounds, including $150,000 for the Singleton Firelight Festival in May last year, and now we’re building on that investment by bringing the world’s best talent to the sky above the Hunter Valley,” Mr Layzell said.

“This is a huge drawcard for tourism, with the weekend of full-throttle family entertainment the perfect opportunity to promote this region, support local businesses and experience some of the best wineries Australia has to offer.”

Hunter Valley Airshow Founder and pilot Paul Bennet said the funding is essential in allowing them to deliver an outstanding airshow event to the people of regional NSW.

“Hunter Valley Airshow’s goal is to not only provide a fun day out for the whole family, but to showcase the amazing strengths and culture the Hunter and its surrounds have to offer,” Mr Bennet said.

“As a result of this funding, we expect to be able to deliver a much-needed boost to the local economy, tourism and hospitality trade. After a difficult few years, we want to make this a flagship event and breathe new life into the region.”

Hunter Valley Airshow 

The $40 million Regional Events Acceleration Fund is part of the $3.3 billion Regional Growth Fund, designed to support growing regional centres, activate local economies and improve services and community infrastructure for regional communities.

REAL ICE SKATING RINK

– DAILY 9.30am – 9.00pm (last session 8.30pm)
Children and adults can enjoy zooming around to lights and music on our Real Ice Skating Rink which will be undercover in our Snow Time Marquee. This will be run in sessions of 20 minutes for up to 200 skaters starting from 9.30am every day and running through until 9.00pm. Ice skates, helmets and some Bobby Seals (skating frame) will be provided. Children under the age of 10 years must wear a helmet which will be provided.

REAL ICE TOBOGGAN

– DAILY 10.00am – 9.00pm

Get your adrenalin pumping and rocket down on our 25 metre toboggan! Located inside the marquee and attached to the ice skating rink, this super fun ice slide has toboggans provided and is designed for both children and adults.

SNOW TIME PLAY AREA

Kids can get creative and have the opportunity to play in the man-made snow, making their very own snowman or snow angel.

SNOW BALL CHALLENGE

Kenji produces traditional hand-made ice sculptures with a chainsaw and has done many large scale ice sculpting demonstrations on stage. Last year Kenji made some amazing sculptures during Snow Time including penguins, hawks dolphins and more. Come along to see what he will create this year!

HUSKY RACING DEMONSTRATIONS

Come and see these beautiful dogs and learn how to train and run dog teams with 2, 4 and 6 dogs per team. Treasure Island on Stage in Cessnock

Back when I was a youngster one of my favourite books I read  was "Treasure Island" by Robert Louis Stevenson. The book was filled with pirates, buried treasure, sword fights, treasure maps, muskets!  

The book has been turned into a play and will be performed by the Queensland Theatre Company at on Saturday 18th August at the Cessnock Performing Arts Centre, NSW, Australia  at 2pm

Everyone is invited to join twelve year old Jim Hawkins on his hunt for buried treasure. But watch out . . . . there are double-crossing pirates all around, led by the notorious Long John Silver. Will Jim make it from his home in a small seaside village to the mysterious Treasure Island? 

A magical coming of age story, and the original classic pirate tale, Treasure Island explores themes of adventure and escapism, coming of age, role models and overcoming fears. A magical theatrical experience for the whole family.

‘The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe’ Onstage

Hunter Region Drama School (HRDS) presents ‘The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe’, written by C.S Lewis, on Wednesday 11th July at 11am and 7pm at the Cessnock performing Arts Centre in Cessnock, NSW Australia.

The HRDS this year makes an ambitious and challenging leap as they present a modern adaptation of C.S. Lewis’ timeless and beloved adventure.

An old house in rural England becomes the home for four children who discover an entryway into a wintry mystical world through an old wardrobe.  In the incredible Narnia, Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy make friends with the mythical forest people suffering under the hundred-year rule of the cruel White Witch.  The arrival of the children gives the creatures of Narnia hope for the return of their true ruler. There is a great battle to see whether this magical country will remain under a wintry spell or will, once again, know freedom and summer under good King Aslan.

Fiddler On The Roof, an Opera Hunter Production, will be performed at the Cessnock Performing Arts Centre, NSW Australia at 2pm & 7:30pm on Saturday 28th April at 2pm on Sunday 29th April.

This rousing musical, based on the stories of Shalom Aleichem, takes place in pre-revolutionary Russia and centres on the life of Tevye, a milkman who is trying to keep his family’s traditions in place while marrying off his three older daughters. Yet, times are changing and the daughters want to make their own matches, breaking free of many of the constricting customs required of them by Judaism.

Fiddler on the Roof is blessed with a gloriously rousing score full of memorable melodies and spectacular dance sequences. Bound by a moving and compelling storyline, heart warming humour and colourful characters, this the musical to take to your hearts! 18th Annual Reg Lindsay Rodeo & Music Reunion

If you like country music  then head to the  Cessnock Showgrounds on Saturday 10h March 2011 when the 17th Annual Reg Lindsay Rodeo & Music Reunion will be held. Cessnock is located in the wine country in the Hunter Valley in NSW Australia. 

There will be a rodeo, country music hoedown, market stalls, kids entertainment  and mechanical bull rides. The rodeo action begins from 3pm with a full program of events including bull ride, saddle bronc, bareback, barrel race, time events, and junior events. Over $8000 in prize money is on offer.

This is followed by a music reunion from 8.30pm featuring Bob Morton & the Summerland Kings.
