Brisbane gearing up for major conferences in 2024

More than $94 million is expected to be injected into Brisbane’s economy with its events calendar including many conferences across science, technology, energy, education and transport.

A number of high-profile conferences will hit Brisbane this year with the economic impact expected to exceed $94 million for the city.

Brisbane Economic Development Agency (BEDA) has secured a number of events across science, technology, health, energy and education.

The Health Services Research Conference and the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators 2024 National Conference will be held in the city with BEDA also supporting the the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre to host the World Down Syndrome Congress.

BEDA CEO Anthony Ryan says new international airline routes flying in and out of Brisbane are helping the resurgence of international visitors to the Queensland city.

“These visitors fill local hotels, dine at our world-class restaurants and soak up the best of our diverse lifestyle and entertainment precincts, which supports local businesses and jobs,” he says.

Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner says the city is refining its hotel, venue and lifestyle offerings to improve delegates’ experience.

“Last year, we saw the return of international conferences across industries such as science, health, technology, transport and agriculture, along with strong expressions of interest from new events to secure Brisbane as a conference destination,” he says.

“From the fantastic offerings of Howard Smith Wharves, to improved public transport with the launch of Brisbane Metro this year, Brisbane is the premier events destination for business and leisure.

“We are also supporting our conference and incentives markets through new and expanded aviation routes to Brisbane from key markets, including China and North America.”
