The stay program includes a balanced breakfast in the morning, movement of the body under the sunlight during the day and a good night’s sleep in the evening.
This year, new experiences such as "Nibui Afternoon Tea" and "Island Style Power Walk" are included in the program.
By following the islanders’ idea of “eat well, move well and sleep well” during autumn, which is also know as the season of sleep in Japan, guests can experience deep sleep and adjust their unsteady life rhythm.
Background
With the increasing interest in the immune system, getting enough good sleep is now getting attention. Autumn is when daylight hours shorten and so, it is the time of year when the number of hours of sleep becomes naturally longer. Also, autumn is the season when “Nibui-sou (daylilies),” which is called “sleeping grass” in Okinawa, blooms. Taketomi Island is the perfect environment with the sounds of birds and calming waves, for relaxation and a good night’s sleep. This program was developed in the hopes for guests with busy lives to experience deep sleep in Taketomi Island, where “island time” exists.
Characteristics of “Deep Sleep Island Stay” through eating, moving and sleeping well
“Eating Well”
・Nibui Afternoon Tea of Nibui-sou (daylily)
Nibui-sou, which is familiar to people in Okinawa, is brewed and drunk when there is difficulty sleeping. In addition to the herb tea of fresh nibui-sou from our garden, tartine, blancmange, and cream puffs are mixed with nibui-sou for a “Nibui Afternoon Tea,” inviting drowsiness. The fresh and green fragrance of herbal tea can be enjoyed in an open space.
・Soy milk hot pot with fresh vegetables and pork slices
This hot pot will be served for breakfast, whereby eating breakfast, guests can wake their body, and chewing well will also activate the nerves. Pork and soy milk are ingredients that contain a lot of high-quality protein, which is one of the building blocks to create a hormone that helps with sleep. In order to get a good night’s sleep, eating a full meal of plant-based protein in the morning will reset the body’s internal clock.
“Moving Well”
・Body in action with Island Style Power Walk
Power walk is one of the ways to keep healthy by stepping firmly on the ground with the soles of the feet while swinging the arms and walking quickly using the whole body. This technique is combined with deep breathing through the nose and mouth to provide oxygen throughout the body. Sunrise is the perfect time for this walk with the island breeze and few people around. Walking using the whole body while looking at the cityscape of the original sceneries of Okinawa will give the body moderate fatigue, leading to good sleep.
・Morning and evening stretches
In the morning, guests will participate in the “Yonna (Slow) Deep Breathing,” characteristic of movements with slow breathing at the Aiyaru Beach at sunrise. It also incorporates quick movements to wake up the body. “Tinnu (Sky) Deep Breathing” exercise is hosted under the starry skies and follows a gentle pace of stretching that calms the mind in order to ease the body into a deep sleep. It helps adjust the body’s internal clock by establishing morning and evening through these exercises.
“Sleeping Well”
・Relaxing spa treatment and a chair hammock to induce comfortable sleep
A dreamy time can be spent at the spa, where guests can be comforted by the scent of aroma oils made from the island’s natural ingredients, in a private space. A chair hammock will be prepared in the guest rooms for the perfect day nap, which is part of the daily routine of islanders. It is said that moderate day naps can relieve sleepiness during the day and allow a good night’s sleep. Enjoy the rhythmic sway of the chair hammock that guides one to doze off during the day.
