Cairns home to a month of national events

The Cairns Indigenous Art Fair
The arts and sport converge in Cairns this month with an exciting line-up of national events for locals and visitors to enjoy.

Tourism Tropical North Queensland Director of Business and Tourism Events Rosie Douglas said the Cairns Indigenous Art Fair, a National Rugby League game and an Australian Football League game were secured as part the region’s Event Prioritisation Strategy.

“This strategy continues to provide a solid foundation for the leisure tourism event portfolio with a growing calendar of national and international events throughout the year,” she said.

Cairns Mayor Bob Manning said Cairns continued to be a sought-after destination for major events.

"It's impressive that so many high-profile sporting games come to Cairns each year, and with the improvements to our cultural centres, such as Munro Martin Parklands, we are seeing more and more high-calibre arts events visiting our city as well,” he said.

"While these events attract visitors and provide an economic boost for our region, our own community is the biggest beneficiary."
