China Building World’s Deepest High-speed Rail Station Beneath Great Wall

In preparation for the 2022 Winter Olympics Games, China has begun construction on the world’s deepest and largest high-speed railway station located beneath a popular section of the country’s Great Wall.

Located at Badaling, one of the most popular sections of the Great Wall about 50 miles (80km) northwest of Beijing, the area can draw as many as 30,000 tourists in one day. Badaling station will be located 335 feet (102m) beneath the surface, with an underground construction area equal to five football fields.

The station will sit along a railway line that will connect Beijing with Zhangjiakou, the host city for the Winter Olympics.
