LOOKING BACK THE 10 YEAR PATH OF ESTABLISHMENT AND DEVELOPMENT INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL EXPO HO CHI MINH CITY 2014 ITE HCMC 2014 “5 COUNTRIES, ONE DESTINATION”

Under instruction by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism coordinates with Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, the City Tourism Association and Vinaxad/Infoma Company to jointly organize the 10th year anniversary of International Travel Expo – ITE HCMC 2014. The Expo will take place from September 11th to September 13th, 2014 at Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center – SECC, Phu My Hung, District 07, Ho Chi Minh City.

First edition of ITE HCMC was hosted from October 07 to October 09, 2005 with only 80 booths and 45 buyers, marking a step to enter the international travel market, the second edition of ITE HCMC organized in 2006 opened more new markets for Vietnam’s tourism industry, and in 2007, the 03rd ITE HCMC confirmed its potential for tourism promotion connection in some regional countries with a title of “3 countries, one destination” – Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam, resulting in an increase to 148 booths and 107 buyers from 10 countries and territories. By 2011, the Organizer admitted successfully Myanmar as a member for the new title “4 Countries, One Destination” and in 2013, the membership of Thailand changed the title as “Five Countries, One Destination”. It can be said that ITE HCMC has showcased its gradual powerful development in terms of both scale and quality, confirming its professional service in both content and activities and earmarking an annual growth by from 15% to 20%. To date, after 10 years, ITE HCMC has proved its prestigious brand and important role in the regional and international platform. Ho Chi Minh City is the unique locality throughout the country honourably assigned to host such a professional international Travel Expo. The Expo has shown its great development via presence of many big and potential markets and travel destinations. At the same time, professionalism is also seen reaching a new height. From the beginning, the Expo only organized the showcasing activities. But by now, the activities are diversified and plentiful, presented by not only exhibitors but also by hundreds of international buyers and sellers, showing very busy schedules on the online pre-scheduled appointments system – PSA which is provided free of charge for enterprises attending the Expo to support scheduling, appointment and meeting between buyers and sellers as requested. Especially, many attractive promotional programmes are also offered to tourism consumers and visitors at the Expo on the Travel Consumer Fun Fair Day.

10 years of ITE HCMC have truly created great chances for 05 nationals in the lower part of the Mekong river sub-region to reach the goal “5 Countries, One Destination” – namely Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam, with a close connection between the 05 cities where are the biggest tourism centres such as: Bangkok, Phnom Penh, Vientiane, Yangon and Ho Chi Minh City, helping generate a flexibility and focused efforts in developing tourism industry in each of countries. Together with such international cooperation in tourism, regional connection for domestic tourism development has also reported specific achievements, from only 10 localities in first years to 28 provinces and cities in the whole country attending the Exhibition.

10th ITE HCMC in 2014 is enlarged both in scale, quantity and quality, expected to attract 200 international buyers from over 30 countries and territories, 100 “local” buyers (outbound travel agents from 05 countries), 20 international presses and 350 sellers from the countries of Cambodia,India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand, Netherland, England, Vietnam and so on, expected to call more than 20,000 international and domestic visitors and continue its status as one of the fastest growing international tourism trade events in the region. To make fruitful meetings between buyers and sellers, the online Pre-scheduled Appointment System – PSA offered free of charge to the enterprises attending the Expo has been made available one month prior to the expo with a better and more scientific investment to support scheduling, appointment and meeting between buyers and sellers as requested. After days of the Expo, buyers and international presses will have a trip to survey types of sea travel and river travel at some key travel destinations of Vietnam such as Quang Nam, Danang, Nha Trang, Binh Thuan, Ba Ria Vung Tau and Tien Giang.

In addition, this year, the exhibitors will introduce their attractions and typical features via outstanding decoration and design of booths in favour of themes of each country and territory. Particularly, the expo also presents destinations and tourism products of 28 provinces and cities in the country including Vung Tau, Binh Thuan, Ca Mau, Can Tho, Vinh Long, Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Danang, Hue, Quang Nam, Dak Nong, Phu Yen, Kien Giang, Lam Dong, Khanh Hoa, Ninh Binh, Dak Lak, etc, as well as showcases typical tourism products, potential of the local tourism industry to buyers, domestic and international presses, bringing opportunity for the national tourism enterprises, particularly the small and medium sized ones, to expand their business scale to the international and fruitful key markets.

The Opening Ceremony of 10th year ITE HCMC 2014 will be organized beautifully with many interesting artistic performances showing the identity, friendship and solidarity among the countries of Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam like the alluvium rise of Mekong river, reflecting a good symbol of international solidarity spirit. Countries in the Mekong river sub-region which are Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos have in recent years attained positive and powerful economic achievements, increasingly confirming their important roles in the region and the world. In tandem with successes of the cooperation in field of economy, society, medicine and education, the tourism industry is being considered one of the highlights on the association map of 05 friendship countries. The 10th year anniversary of International Travel Expo Ho Chi Minh City is a strong confirmation for non-stop efforts of the countries in Mekong river sub-region, looking forward the goal of making tourism industry become the competitive economic sector of the whole region. The Opening Ceremony will honourably welcome Ministers of 05 countries in Mekong river sub-region as well as Mayors of the cities: Phnom Penh, Vientiane, Yangon and Bangkok. Also in the opening evening, the 6th Mekong Tourism Alliance Awards 2014 will be organized, which is the annual event closely linked to the International Travel Expo Ho Chi Minh City (ITE – HCMC 2014) to celebrate and recognize enterprises who have made great contributions to the tourism industry coming from 05 countries of Mekong river sub-region as well as to create a motivation for them to spare no effort to gain better achievements. This is seen as the prestigious tourism award in the region with the very strict and serious standards. There are 05 awards: Airline of the year, Outbound Travel operator of the Year, Inbound Travel Operator of the Year, 5 Star Hotel of the Year, Resort Hotel of the Year

In addition, the Expo also highlights the following activities:
- Lighting River Cruises Festival: to be first organized on Saigon river on September 09th, 2014 with the theme of light as symbol of Ho Chi Minh City tourism industry – “Vibrant Ho Chi Minh City”. This is a chance to promote to the public, tourists and travel enterprises typical features of river tourism products in Ho Chi Minh City as well as short-way, medium-way and long-way river tourism routes; organize events to introduce many types of river tourism products which have been attached for long to the spiritual life of the Southern residents. This is also the highlight to celebrate the 10th year anniversary of ITE HCMC for its success in and great contribution to developing Vietnam’s international tourism sector.

- A lining-up demonstration of Lighting River Cruises Festival including cruisers running on Bach Dang River will be organized, which is a product of river travel companies in Ho Chi Minh City. These cruisers will be decorated with lights to feature different themes and showcase typical identities of the City’s tourism destinations. The programme is designed to promote a space of colours, a night sky of lights sourcing from led and laser lamps. The theme of light as symbol of Ho Chi Minh City tourism industry is “Vibrant Ho Chi Minh city”. Lighting cruisers will follow one another to demonstrate on the river route (Bach Dang – Ben Nghe Port – Bach Dang).

- Vietnam Tourist Market Perspectives will recommend destinations for 200 buyers and international presses with the theme of Island Tourism at 13h30 – 16h30, September 10th, 2014 at SECC. The seminar will detail lively attractive, typical potential related to culture, nature and people of Vietnam together with policies developed by the Government in favour of perspective tourism markets as well as connection capability between Vietnam’s tourism regions and buyers, media organizations in the region and potential markets in the world.

Besides, the Expo this year, by keeping with tendency of the international market, will also pave the way for enterprises to enter promising markets such as Japan and Islamic countries. In recent years, Japan tends to develop and expand its market in ASEAN and is recognized as the potential market with about 20 Japanese visitors travelling abroad a year, hundreds of thousands of whom come to Vietnam (according to Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, in first 07 months of 2014, number of Japanese visitors to Vietnam reaches 362,530, up by 6.7% against same period of last year). In tandem with that, based on statistic data, there are 1.8 billion of Islamic people (making up 25% of global population) and it is forecasted that a revenue from Islamic tourists will be about USD 192 billion/year in 2020 (according to a study by two companies focusing on Islamic markets who are Cresentrating and DinaStandards). For this reason, in order to complete products and services to meet demands and tastes of tourists in markets targeted by Islamic ones, the Organizer of ITE HCMC 2014 focuses on organizing 02 Seminars to study following perspective markets:

- Seminar “Japan Tourists market: current trends & potential outlook: In compliance with the policy to promote attracting Japanese tourists to Vietnam in period 2012 – 2015 announced by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Organizer, this time, will attach special importance to introduce Japanese market at the Seminar “Japan Tourists market: current trends & potential outlook at 13h30 – 16h30, September 11th, 2014 at SECC. The Seminar will build an important foundation to enter such a key promising market as Japan with a focus on inviting speakers who are experts – experienced and well-known in tourism sector coming from Tokyo, Japan in order to provide more information and knowledge of current status of Japanese tourists as well as potentiality and perspective for development of Japanese market. Also, the seminar will be chance to nurse and improve skills and experiences of travel enterprises who have been trading in this key promising market with the aim to develop Vietnam – Ho Chi Minh City to become the attractive destination for Japanese tourists in the coming time.

- Seminar “The key to enter Islamic Tourist Market” – introduce the Islamic tourist market at 14h00 – 16h00, September 12th, 2014 in SECC. The seminar will provide information on markets, so that companies trading in services of travel – hotel – restaurant having entered this market will have chance to nurse, improve skills and gather more knowledge and experience in order to develop strategies to produce, promote products as well as strategies to market, implement, change and promote services under the Islamic ceremony such as: standards on foodstuff, airport, hotel, praying room and so on. The Seminar Organizer has invited professional experts from Malaysia, Middle East and Turkey – the closest destinations for Islamic tourists – to recommend orientations and offer approaches to such potential Islamic tourist market.

- Talk to introduce tourist markets of England, France, Australia, Thailand will make an introduction on tourist markets of England, France, Australia and Thailand at 09h00 – 12h00, September 11th and September 12th, 2014 at SECC hosted by Vietnam National Administration of Tourism.

- Talk to introduce tourist destination of Korea will make an introduction on tourist destination of Korea as well as service of treatment and health care in Korea at 09h00 – 12h00, September 13th, 2014 at SECC.

- Talk for ACMECS tourism cooperation for Ministers and Mayors are to assess the cooperation work and cooperative programs between the tourism industries of ACMECS countries in period 2013 – 2014 and at the same time recommend cooperation ways and solutions for the time to come. The talk will take place at 15h30 – 17h30 on September 10th, 2014 at White Place Convention Centre.

- “Friendship Golf Competition of Mekong river sub-region countries” will be organized on September 10th, 2014 within the framework “Second ACMECS Tourism Minister Conference” in order to diversify activities of the conference, showing the royal treatment, and improve the solidarity and cooperation between the regional countries via sport events reserved for Leaders of the Tourism Ministries of ACMECS, Mayors of the cities at lower part of Mekong river and other invited guests.

- Travel Consumer Fun Fair Day is a playing ground for travel enterprises and tourism consumers, creating chance for travel enterprises to access, introduce and offer new products, travel promotion programs, cheap air-tickets and so on of the travel enterprises and prestigious airlines to the tourism consumers such as Saigon Tourist, Viettravel, Hoa Binh Travel, Ben Thanh Tourist, Vietnam airlines, Vietjet, Jestar, etc. Particularly, there will be a program of discount to only VND 9000/airticket offered by Vietjet for every domestic and international route. This is also an occasion for consumers to understand further promotion programs for domestic Travel demand enhancement, programs on special discount for tours in end of year and New Year Holiday from the travel enterprises. At the same time, visitors will have chance to enjoy many outstanding international artistic performances from the countries attending the Expo and typical A O circus performance using merely-Vietnamese materials such as Southern folk music, props made of bamboo modernly combined with lights, move of bodies together with harmonious, emotional and fine arrangement.

First organized in 2005, ITE HCMC is considered the foremost tourism trade event of Vietnam. This event is the ideal networking platform for travel enterprises to introduce their own products and services not only in Mekong region but also from countries and travel cities inside and outside of the Asia Pacific. ITE HCMC 2014 is the centralized effort of Ho Chi Minh City, supported by the creativeness and great effort in investment from Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism. 10th ITE HCMC has been upgraded in terms of space, quality of products, brands with the aim to develop the travel market. The annual ITE HCMC is planning to become the effective playing-ground for both domestic and international enterprises to share, discuss and cooperate for both inbound and outbound travel business in Vietnam and Mekong Region.
