The Subtropical Yoron Island in Japan

Located between Kyushu and Okinawa, Yoron Island is famed for its crystalline waters, soft sandy beaches, and laidback lifestyle.

This subtropical island has some offbeat attractions, including a train station to nowhere, a Greek-inspired village, and an intriguing drinking game that welcomes guests.

Yoron retains its historic charm – many houses still sport traditional cone-shaped thatched roofs – and islanders still celebrate full moon festivals where they pray for good harvest with traditional dances.
