Improved Beijing‐Shanghai Bullet Train Introduced

Two new domestically-produced trains put into service this week on the high-speed line between Beijing and Shanghai bring multiple improvements to the route.

The sleek-looking new trains offer an increase in elbow and leg-room, more conveniently-located power outlets, and free Wifi for passengers.

These new models are also capable of higher speeds — up to 400 km/hour (compared to the previous 300 km/hour) — and use 17% less energy than their predecessors.

The price of tickets on the improved route, meanwhile, remains the same. Production of more trains is planned to bring them to all high-speed lines around the nation.
