Let's Show the World What Really Happens on the Gold Coast

Gold Coast Tourism fought back today against the Seven Network following their broadcast of What Really Happens on the Gold Coast, and is now encouraging Gold Coast locals to do the same.

“For a number of years, the Gold Coast has been severely and repeatedly misrepresented in mainstream media,” Martin Winter, CEO of Gold Coast Tourism said. “As a proud and passionate Gold Coaster, I am not only insulted but also fed up.

“We know from research, this type of negative coverage is bad for everyone living and working here on the Gold Coast.

“It impacts on the perceptions of the city for potential visitors, particularly in relation to safety, but also in the way that residents of our city are unfairly perceived,” he added.

“It's not just damaging for tourism. These perceptions will have flow on effects for a range of areas of our economy, not least of which being future investment in the city.

“As we approach the 2018 Commonwealth Games, Gold Coast Tourism is working with the Queensland Government and the City of Gold Coast to show the state, the nation and the world the real stories of our fantastic lifestyle, culture and arts that we offer as a holiday destination.

“We're encouraging locals to take to social media to show their families, friends and followers what life is actually like on the Gold Coast.

“We have a lifestyle that is envied globally, our beaches are world famous and our hinterland is pristine. We have award-winning dining, a calendar of great events and world-class events - it's time to show it off,” Martin said.
