Zhouzhuang International Tourism Festival Brightens Up Summer

Zhouzhuang
Fresh after the placid waterways and ancient architecture of Zhouzhuang were put on display in The New York Times’ “52 Places to Go in 2015” list as a nearby attraction from Shangahi, a new series of summer events have kicked off in Zhouzhuang.

The 20th China Zhouzhuang International Tourism Festival launched on May 20th and will run through the end of June.

Windmill season is also in effect in the historic water town (which is often referred to as the “Venice of the East”), with colorful pinwheels festooning the whole town as a nod to the windmills that were used in China thousands of years ago for power, and that are also a symbol of good fortune in traditional Chinese culture.

Other special events this summer include workshops on traditional arts, such as wine brewing bamboo carving, and tofu making.

Zhouzhuang is within an hour’s drive of Shanghai and is a wonderful destination for visitors looking to get a taste of traditional culture, arts and exciting events, this summer and all year long.
