Voyages’ Mossman Gorge wins Queensland Tourism Award for Indigenous Tourism‏

Voyages Indigenous Tourism Australia’s Mossman Gorge Centre has won the Queensland Tourism Award for Indigenous Tourism at a Gala Award Ceremony held in Brisbane on Friday 28 November.

“Following on from winning the Indigenous Tourism Award at the Tropical North Queensland Awards a few weeks ago this further accolade at a State level is great recognition of our experience at Mossman,” said Greg Erwin, Mossman Gorge Centre General Manager.

The Mossman Gorge Centre, a $20 million eco-tourism development at the Mossman Gorge World Heritage Site, opened in June 2012 and runs daily Ngadiku Dreamtime Walks that provide one of Australia’s most iconic Aboriginal experiences. The walks offer exclusive access to Kuku Yalanji land and are conducted by local experienced interpretive Indigenous guides who demonstrate traditional plant use, identify bush food sources and provide an enchanting narrative of their special relationship with this unique tropical environment. It is the perfect option for visitors looking for genuine, authentic engagement with Indigenous Australia.

In addition to the walks visitors can enjoy a delightful meal in the Mayi Café, stroll through the art gallery which features local Indigenous artists and exhibitions and also catch a regular shuttle into Mossman Gorge.

The Centre runs a successful Indigenous training program and enjoys high Indigenous employment, currently at 77 Indigenous employees representing 90% of the total workforce.

This award joins the recent win by Ayers Rock Resort for Indigenous Tourism at the Northern Territory Tourism Awards and both operations are now finalists at the 2014 Australian Tourism Awards which will be held in Adelaide in April.

“Excellence in Indigenous Tourism is core to our vision at Voyages and to receive recognition for the achievement of this at two of our properties is very gratifying. It is a fantastic endorsement of the success of the entire team and we are very much looking forward to representing both Queensland and the Northern Territory in the Indigenous Tourism Category at the National Awards,” said Andrew Williams, Voyages CEO.
