Rooftop fireworks to amaze Adelaide for the first time

For the first time in Adelaide, fireworks will be released from the roof of the Adelaide Convention Centre as part of Australia Day Celebrations.

Australia Day in the City – the key capital city celebration for the National Day – is again being held with its traditional format in Elder Park with a community parade, concert featuring Australian dance and singing sensation Timomatic and fireworks display launched from Pinky Flat.

However, in new additions this year will see the Adelaide Convention Centre conduct the Snazzy Sizzle – a ticketed themed gourmet BBQ function and Australia Day in the City after-party on the Regatta’s Bistro + Bar lawn on the Riverbank Promenade. This function will literally have the best seat in the house for the new fireworks display, which will be released for the first time from the Adelaide Convention Centre rooftop, creating an amazing display for both public and the attendees at the Snazzy Sizzle function.

Australia Day Council of South Australia Executive Officer Matt Miles said the Council was always trying to create something new and exciting for Australia Day.

“Fireworks off the roof of the Convention Centre is ambitious and has never been attempted, but with great cooperation between parties we’ve been able to make it happen for this year’s event, which is very exciting,” Mr Miles said.

Adelaide Convention Centre Chief Executive Alec Gilbert said that the Centre was delighted to partner with the Australia Day Council.

“There will be an incredible atmosphere in the Riverbank precinct for the Australia Day celebrations, and we’re pleased to be able to offer Snazzy Sizzle guests front row seats to the spectacular fireworks display,” Mr Gilbert said.

The Adelaide City Council plays a key role in this event accordingly the Lord Mayor Stephen Yarwood has remarked; “The new fireworks display at the Adelaide Convention Centre will make Australia Day even more exciting this year – and I invite people into the city to enjoy the entertainment.”
