Margaret River to Indulge Creative Minds

The Margaret River Region in Western Australia is set to come alive with a celebration of digital and creative minds at Emergence Creative Festival in February.

Emergence Creative is a unique three-day event exploring the future of creativity and how it is driven by insight and innovation, providing the ultimate platform to bring ideas to life.

The festival, in its second year, is set amongst a backdrop of iconic wineries, stunning beaches and spectacular natural attractions to inspire creativity and offer a truly different experience for delegates.

Festival Chairman Mat Lewis said that Emergence Creative had a diverse program unlike any other creative festival in Australia.

“Emergence showcases screenings of creative work and provides opportunities for discussion and debate through collaborative sessions, panel discussions, beach breakfasts, live music performances and winery dinners - there's even a surf competition!” said Mr Lewis.

“The digital world is developing faster than anyone ever imagined. It's opening up new opportunities and challenges and breaking down the traditional boundaries of business.

“It's no longer about where you work; it's all about who are you, how you think and what you can offer. Emergence is about networking with like-minded creative and tech professionals,” he said.

Event Manager Georgia Stewart said that this year’s festival had some new and exciting additions to the program.

“This year we have the Pitch to Play Competition for people to promote their creative work, perfect pitching techniques and pitch ideas to investors and entrepreneurs,” said Ms Stewart.

“We also have pop-up music recording studios at unique venues around the region including the spectacular new Lake Cave Events Deck, the new ‘ShellTer’ at Surfers Point, and Vasse Felix – the pioneering winery of the Margaret River Region,” she said.

The line-up of speakers includes PJ Bloom - Music Supervisor for the Glee franchise, Gruen panellist Carolyn Miller and Ben Akers from the ethical and sustainable ad agency The Republic of Everyone.

Augusta Margaret River Tourism Association CEO Pip Close said there would be workshops targeted specifically for small business and the tourism industry.

“It’s great to see that Emergence has catered for small and upcoming businesses and specifically for the tourism industry, which include 'Marketing with No Money' and 'Social Media Destination Marketing' – with prices starting from just $75,” said Ms Close.

“Emergence really breaks down the boundaries and allows for collaboration and innovation between different creative sectors including digital, design, music, film, communications and technology.

“Plus it’s held in one of the world’s friendliest places as voted by Conde Naste Traveler, and one of the South Pacific’s Top 10 Destinations on the Rise according to Trip Advisor – what more could you want!” said Ms Close.

Mr Lewis said that the conference was open to everyone.

“It’s where artists can meet with big agencies and small businesses can meet with the elite,” said Mr Lewis.

“There are workshops for beginners who have ideas that aren't off the ground yet, sessions for new starters, masterclasses to delve deeper and keynote speakers to inspire creative minds,” he said.

“What is unique about Emergence is that it’s set in the ideal creative location – just ask the huge creative community which is alive and well in Margaret River. It's definitely a more inspiring setting than in the middle of a city.

“Some of the world's brightest minds are being flown in to WA to share their career experiences and inspire attendees on how they can bring their new ideas to life. If you're ready to rejuvenate your creative mind, then Emergence is the place to be,” said Mr Lewis.

So if you work in advertising, film, music, communications, design or anything vaguely digital, Emergence is definitely for you.

Emergence Creative runs from 19th to 21st February 2014.
