The meta-search engine refers the end user to a preferred list of OTAs. The consumer interacts with an OTA which sends notifications to a technology provider such as a GDS. The technology provider then has to speak to a wholesaler and/or ticketing provider who in turn speaks to flight companies or hotels…Is the process of buying travel too convoluted? Is the pie really big enough to serve all stakeholders in the online travel sector? The online travel industry relies on an
established set of highly choreographed relationships that previously granted efficiencies. The industry needs to ask itself whether the old offline relationships are still valid or are they now an expensive and cumbersome drag on the value chain. Is the business of buying travel outdated? What innovations exist to overcome payments problems in the industry? Is dynamic packaging the answer?
