Yanagidani Kannon Temple in Japan

Located in Nagaokakyo, Yanagidani Kannon is a temple named for its 11-faced, thousand-armed statue of Kannon (Goddess of Mercy).

Within the temple’s premises is a sacred spring that is said to heal eye diseases, so for centuries, people have been coming here in hopes of curing their eye problems.

The temple’s inner garden is famous for its 5,000 hydrangeas that bloom in June, as well as for its impressive autumn foliage.

The best view of the garden is said to be from the Kamishoin – a study room once reserved for the elites of the Meiji era.
