Pan Pacific Perth is fast becoming known for its community spirit and role in helping the homeless of Perth.
After successful efforts to secure the hotel as a safe haven for the city's most vulnerable through discussions with the City of Perth, the next step for Rob Weeden, Hotel General Manager, was to ensure that the assistance the hotel was providing to the cities homeless was permanent. Rob's aspirations became to come to fruition when he received a call from Gary Dunkerley of Osborne Motor Bodies, whom after hearing Rob speak on a local radio station interview about the Hotel with Heart program, was adamant he wanted to donate a one-of-a-kind food truck to help support Pan Pacific Perth's efforts.
“There are not many things we can't build at the shop, but this was by far the most important project we have had. After being in the Special Forces back in the UK, I have known and mourned many friends that have been affected by homelessness, addiction and bad luck. I wanted to do something to help support the awesome work of the hotel and Ruah Community Services.”
Gary and his team have built and donated a custom food truck that will help serve the now famous Bacon and Egg Rolls and steak sandwiches the Pan Pacific Perth kitchen team have been pumping out during the COVID-19 lockdown. “We are so committed to supporting Ruah in the incredible work that they do for the homeless community in Perth. We will be donating 100% of the profits from every sale of a $5 Bacon and Egg Roll in order to do this and we cannot be more excited,” says General Manager Rob Weeden. Paying customers will also be able to pre-purchase Bacon and Egg Rolls and hot coffee for those that cannot do so themselves with the 'Pay it Forward' program.
When Paul from McGloughin Butchers was approached by Consulting Chef Alejandro Saravia for support he was quick to commit to donating 20 kilos of bacon per week and sourced free-range eggs for the team to ensure that every roll that was produced by the food truck was first rate and is thrilled to be a part of the exciting project.
Ruah Community Services has honoured its commitment to ending homelessness in WA through its involvement in the development of many programs designed to support those sleeping rough. Ruah's highly personalized and flexible approach to providing support perfectly aligns with the unique concept of Bobby's BBQ Truck.
The hotel is in the midst of developing training programs for RUAH-recommended candidates whom need a helping hand to re-enter the workforce. The Food Truck program, which may see candidates working in Bobby's BBQ Truck, will give candidates the incredible opportunity to learn a variety of practical skills in a supportive environment.
Bobbys BBQ Truck will be open to the public from Friday July 3 from 6:30am.
