This year Tourism Whitsundays will be hosting the annual Australian Society of Travel Writers Christmas lunches. The Australian Society of Travel Writers Incorporated (ASTW) is the most highly respected travel media body in Australia. Founded in 1975 and incorporated in 2011, it is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to promoting ethical and honest travel, and the unbiased reporting of it.
Tourism Whitsundays is proud to be partnering with local industry collective #GoBareboating for the event which will be used to showcase the Whitsundays region and highlight the fantastic bareboating experience of the Whitsundays to the ASTW.
Many prizes will be on offer for the writers to win, such as the chance to skipper your own adventure with an amazing Whitsundays bareboat charter provided by #GoBareboating.
Tourism Whitsundays CEO Natassia Wheeler said that each year these events are crucial to ensuring continued global publicity for the Whitsundays.
“The ASTW is a brilliant network to partner with to ensure our Whitsundays experiences are front of mind to travel writers. The publications that are represented are not only from Australia but right around the world.”
“Each year Tourism Whitsundays provides an opportunity for a member to co-sponsor these lunches to highlight different experiences or new product. We are very excited this year to be taking #GoBareboating along with us to promote their fantastic experience as well as the whole of the Whitsundays.”
#GoBareboating representative Alita Debrincat says the team are excited to showcase the Whitsundays premium boating holiday.
“Bareboating through the 74 Whitsunday Islands is such a unique experience. ASTW members attending the lunches will receive a taste of the #GoBareboating experience to entice ASTW members to visit and write about the region.”
The ASTW has more than 300 members who are freelancers, travel editors, radio and television broadcasters, bloggers, guidebook authors, photographers and public relations (PR), social media and marketing professionals.
Chances are if you’ve enjoyed a recent travel story, and perhaps ogled a gorgeous travel photograph, it’s been the work of an ASTW member. Members’ work appears regularly in major newspapers, magazines and websites across Australia and all over the world.
All members satisfy strict criteria to join the ASTW and substantiate annually – by providing details of their published output or travel-related position – to retain their membership. They must also adhere to a Code of Ethics. By ensuring that only bona fide applicants are admitted, the ASTW maintains its integrity and the professionalism of the travel industry.
ASTW President Helen Hayes is delighted that ASTW will be celebrating the Christmas season supporters, Tourism Whitsundays.
“ASTW members joining in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane lunches will undoubtedly enjoy the dose of Queensland sunshine and hearing about the coastal and island delights of this beautiful part of Australia.”
The lunches will take place in Brisbane on the 5th, Melbourne on the 6th and Sydney on the 7th. The Melbourne lunch is already sold out with Sydney and Brisbane almost at capacity.
Lunches will take place at renowned restaurant E’cco in Brisbane, Fatto in Melbourne and Chin Chin in Sydney.
