LCOAL BUSINESSES FIRE UP CARNIVALE FIREWORKS

Port Douglas Carnivale is set to kick off with a bang thanks to the generous support of local businesses who have once gotten behind the annual colourful fireworks display raising a combined $6500.

Port Douglas Carnivale general manager Roy Weavers said thanks to their support, the fireworks that people have come to know and love, will once again take place at Market Park, at 8pm on Friday, May 22.

“Many people are not aware that it is actually the town’s business owners that cover the cost of the fireworks that take centre stage after the Macrossan Street Parade on the opening Friday of Carnivale.”

Contributors included the Courthouse Hotel, Dougies Backpackers, Salsa Bar & Grill, Maranos, The Combined Club, Sassi Cucina, Bel Cibo, Paddy’s, Rattle & Hum and Nautilus Holiday Apartments.

Mr Weavers said each year they continued to be humbled by the generous donations coming forth from local businesses, many who have no direct link with the fireworks.

“It is admirable to see these businesses digging deep time and time again as they understand the impact a fantastic family event like Carnivale has on the whole community.”

“Each year we ask our friends of the business community to help out with donations and they do, every time, and we couldn't be more grateful.”

The street parade will commence at 6.30pm sharp, however, pre-parade entertainment will start from 5pm.
