My Asian Adventure: A Month-Long Journey Through Thailand, Vietnam, and Cambodia

RV Toum Tiou 11
I recently embarked on an unforgettable four-week journey to three Asian countries, exploring the vibrant cultures, stunning landscapes, and warm hospitality of Thailand, Vietnam, and Cambodia.

I had a great time in Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia during my 4 weeks there. The highlights were staying at several new hotels and going on a Mekong River Cruise on the RV Toum Tiou 11. Over the next few days I will write about the places I visited and the things I saw and did in Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia.

Mercure Bangkok Surawong
I started my month long holiday by flying from Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport to Bangkok, the capitol city of Thailand. The first leg of the Scoot flight was an overnight flight, departing Sydney at 20.55 and arriving at Singapore Changi Airport at 3:20 in the morning. I then enjoyed the company of other travellers in an airport lounge until boarding my next Scoot flight at 12.55 in the afternoon. (The cast and crew from the TV show Travel Guides were also in the lounge.)

After landing at 15.30 at the Suvarnabhumi Bangkok International Airport it was a short walk to the efficient Airport Rail Link to get a  train to the city. I then changed trains to BTS trains and alighted at a station near the Mercure Bangkok Surawong hotel, where I was staying in for the first few days in Bangkok. I enjoyed my time at this brand new hotel very much, where I indulged in delicious meals and relaxing amenities.

Moxy Bangkok Ratchaprasong
I then stayed at another new hotel, the Moxy Bangkok Ratchaprasong. I enjoyed the wonderful atmosphere of the check-in area, bar, lounge and restaurant on the 9th floor and my room high up on the 24th floor.

Apart from sightseeing, I was Hosted Media at the IT&CM Asia travel conference held at Bangkok Convention Centre at CentralWorld. Here I connected with industry professionals from around the world, savoring local flavors and inspiring talks. On he evening before the conference I was hosted with other delegates at Top Golf Megacity.

Crowne Plaza
For my last nights in Bangkok I stayed at the elegant Crowne Plaza Bangkok Lumpini Park where I enjoyed a comfortable room, refreshing pool, and delectable meals.

It was time to say goodby to Thailand, so I took the train to the Don Mueang International Airport to board my Air Asia flight at 13.40. I arrived at the Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Saigon Vietnam at 15.20. The public bus took me into the city centre and it was just a short walk to the Sofitel Saigon Plaza hotel where I stayed for several days. It was then time to leave this wonderful luxurious hotel to try a backpackers hostel. At the Sakura Hostel Saigon I enjoyed the company of the other international backpackers staying in Saigon.

Sofitel Saigon Plaza
The highlight of my trip was the eight-day RV Toum Tiou II cruise along the Mekong River from Vietnam to Cambodia. I shared this unforgettable journey with 13 fellow travelers from Australia, Turkey, Switzerland, Vietnam, and Cambodia. I thoroughly enjoyed the various shore excursions, which allowed us to explore many fascinating locations in both countries. On board, the gourmet food was delightful, featuring buffet breakfasts and lunches, as well as four-course evening meals.

Regency Angkor Hotel
After disembarking the cruise ship in Cambodia I stayed at the Regency Angkor Hotel in Siem Reap.

I then took a Giant Ibis bus to Cambodia's capitol city, Phnom Penh where I checked into the Anik Palace Hotel. lt was then another Giant Ibis bus ride back to Saigon, where I boarded my overnight Jetstar flight at 10.40, landing back Sydney arriving at 11.10. It was a wonderful flight, as I slept all the way.

This flight ended my wonderful month long holiday in Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia. In upcoming articles in The Holiday and Travel Magazine I will delve into the highlights of my journey, sharing insider tips and inspiring stories.
