Son La: Focusing resources on investing in developing tourism infrastructure

With the goal of developing tourism into a spearhead economic sector, in recent years, Son La province has prioritized investment resources, especially infrastructure construction to attract investors to exploit the local tourism potential and strengths.

Prioritize the construction of synchronous transport infrastructure

Right from the planning stage, Son La province has focused on reviewing, making general planning, functional zoning, and detailed planning to build synchronous infrastructure, especially transportation. In particular, implementing the Project "Developing Son La province's traffic infrastructure in a synchronous direction for the period 2026 - 2030", the list of traffic projects has been proposed to prioritize investment resources, create inter-regional, regional and intra-regional connections to serve the goals of socio-economic development and tourism development in the province...

Mr. Tran Xuan Viet, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, commented: The transportation system in Son La province has been formed and distributed quite reasonably throughout the province, creating connections to tourist areas and spots, basically meeting the speed of tourism development in the localities.

Currently, the province is submitting to the Ministry of Transport a proposal to renovate and upgrade a number of key national highways to connect with provinces in the region, including in the 2021-2025 medium-term public investment plan to implement 30 transport projects, with a total length of 427 km. In particular, the Hoa Binh - Moc Chau Expressway Project (in Son La province) is in the process of completing procedures to start construction. The Na San Airport upgrade project and the Moc Chau - Son La city expressway are also being accelerated in preparation for investment. These are key projects, of extremely important significance, contributing to promoting the socio-economic development of Son La province and the provinces in the Northwest region, creating a breakthrough in tourism development.

In addition, localities in the province are promoting the implementation of the new rural development program, gradually completing rural traffic infrastructure. A number of traffic projects on provincial roads, district roads, and urban roads have been approved for investment, the rate of communes with paved roads to the center has now reached 97.5%... not only serving the travel needs of the people but also creating intra-regional connectivity for tourism development.

Focus resources on tourism development projects

Implementing Conclusion No. 94-KL/TU dated January 23, 2021 of the Provincial Party Committee on tourism development in Son La province to 2025, with a vision to 2030, the province's tourism has been prioritized for investment resources in a focused and key direction. In particular, the province has focused on mobilizing and integrating investment capital sources to support tourism development and investing in infrastructure works such as: Main traffic routes, internal traffic routes, electricity, parks, squares, etc.

Districts and cities also prioritize investment capital allocation and call for socialized investment in community tourism sites and the construction of tourism utilities. In the period of 2021 - 2025, over 1,149 billion VND has been allocated for 14 tourism development projects. In 3 years, 77 investment projects have been attracted in the province, including 13 investment projects in the fields of service tourism, tourism agriculture and trade services, with a registered capital of 14,515 billion VND.

In Moc Chau district, there are 18 projects in the tourism and service sector with a total investment of over 3,761 billion VND; 5 investment projects in Moc Chau National Tourist Area with a total investment of over 1,330 billion VND (Moc Chau High-Tech Milk Factory - Mocchaumilk, Ang Pine Forest High-class Resort and Entertainment Area, Moc Chau Island Tourist Area...). In the past 3 years, Moc Chau has mobilized more than 1.7 billion VND from social sources to support major events of the district.

Mr. Le Trong Binh, Chairman of Moc Chau District People's Committee, said: The district is interested in developing infrastructure to serve tourism in a synchronous manner, focusing on implementing management and implementing general construction plans in the district, contributing to the further development of Moc Chau National Tourist Area.

Localities with tourism potential have attracted investment projects, gradually built tourism infrastructure, and basically formed services for tourists. Investing in the construction of Hua Tat Prestige Resort, renovating relics and scenic spots associated with developing community tourism in Van Ho district; renovating and embellishing historical and spiritual relics in Phu Yen and Song Ma districts; improving the landscape of community tourism spots in Muong La district; Bac Yen built connecting routes between districts in the region; developed lake tourism spots in Quynh Nhai; built a Martyrs' Temple at Pha Din Pass Historical - Cultural Relic Site, Thuan Chau district...

Mr. Lo Thanh Thuy, Vice Chairman of Quynh Nhai District People's Committee, said: The district is building and perfecting tourism planning, encouraging the development of existing tourism services and increasing the invitation and attraction of strategic investors to develop tourism in a professional direction. Focus on implementing the orientation of the Quynh Nhai Tourism Development Project to become a provincial-level tourist area, period 2021 - 2030, striving to build attractive tourism products, creating momentum for socio-economic development of the district associated with the implementation of the task of building new rural areas.

The system of tourist accommodation facilities, infrastructure of electricity, water, trade services, entertainment, communications... in tourist areas and spots has also been invested in, meeting the needs of tourists. Currently, the whole province has more than 600 tourist accommodation facilities, of which 29 hotels and resorts have been ranked from 1 to 5 stars. Telecommunications infrastructure has been strongly deployed by enterprises, 4G mobile network covers 100% of communes, wards and towns; 98.39% of villages are covered by 4G mobile broadband.

Prioritizing resources to build synchronous infrastructure and focus on investment, Son La tourism is gradually developing strongly. The formed tourist areas and spots are attractive destinations for tourists and gradually build a typical tourism image associated with the potential and strengths of each locality. In the past 3 years, revenue from tourism activities reached 12,600 billion VND, growing rapidly and stably at 13%/year, contributing about 6% of the province's GRDP, promoting socio-economic development.
