Monks Give Back during COVID-19

Alms giving is a tradition among Buddhists in Thailand. Normally, people offer food to monks to make merit, but during this time of crisis some temples have started giving food to villagers affected by COVID-19.

A group of monks in Lat Peng Temple in Samut Songkhram province has started allocating some of the food, money, and consumer products given by donors for distribution to local people.

They have modified their boat that they use for receiving alms every morning to be a "boat of sharing," or "Pan Suk boat," in order to distribute survival bags which contain food supplies to villagers.

The monks paddle for more then 10 kilometers along the Tha Kha canal to the Mae Klong River to distribute survival bags to villagers living along the canal. Most of the villagers waiting to receive the items are the elderly.
