Whilst being the underdogs, Sri Lanka dethroned the winning team in 2017 to clinch the title & take the hosting rights for the West Asia Baseball Cup in 2019, with the aim of producing the most significant impact on sports tourism as a focus of tourism development in Sri Lanka, with the participation of 6 countries such as India, Pakistan, Iran, Iraq, Nepal and Sri Lanka. As this is an international event, there were nearly 275 international participants and considerable international media value supposed to be USD 126,067.
Therefore, the West Asia Baseball Cup 2019 was the first-ever international Baseball event ever to be held in Sri Lanka spanning for 5 days. The West Asia Baseball Cup in 2019 was hosted by island country Sri Lanka for the first time, and it is the first time The West Asia Baseball Cup was held in South Asia.
