New exhibition at Canberra Museum explores Asian culture

INK REMIX
A new exhibition has been officially opened at the Canberra Museum and Gallery focused on Asian culture by Minister for the Arts Joy Burch.

INK REMIX: Contemporary Art from mainland China, Taiwan and Hong Kong is curated by Dr Sophie McIntyre and highlights new and innovative aspects of contemporary ink art.

Artists participating in the exhibition include: Chen Shaoxiong, Feng Mengbo, He Xiangyu, Hung Keung, Cindy Ng Sio Ieng, Ni Youyu, Pan Hsin-hua, Peng Hung-chih, Peng Wei, Qiu Zhijie, Wilson Shieh, Charwei Tsai, Yang Yongliang and Yao Jui-chung.

Ms Burch said that the exhibition features more than 35 works by 14 artists produced in a range of diverse media including: Coca cola, tea, biro, ink jet prints, photography, video and animation.

“Most artists in the exhibition have trained in Chinese calligraphy and ink painting but reinvent or subvert the tradition in works that explore links between personal, regional and global experience,” Ms Burch said.

“While the Canberra Museum and Gallery has developed the exhibition in response to our community’s strong interest in the region, I am confident it will be received with great enthusiasm as it tours other Australian galleries.”

The exhibition at the Canberra Museum and Gallery runs from 3 July 2015 – 18 October 2015 and will then be shown at Bendigo Art Gallery, University of NSW Galleries Sydney and the Museum of Brisbane.

INK REMIX: Contemporary art from mainland China, Taiwan and Hong Kong is generously supported by The Australian Centre on China in The World and the School of Art , Australian National University; Invest Canberra, Study Canberra and CBR Brand Canberra; and International Art Services.
