Cycling Tourism has the potential to boost regional economies such as Airlie Beach and the Whitsundays, with visitors coming from all over Australia and the world to North Queensland in ever increasing numbers.
The new services that the hotel will offer guests from this month include bike-friendly reception staff with information on the region's cycling trails and events, free cycling tracks and trail maps, an area to use as a bike wash-down station and a foot pump available to guests on request. Many cyclists have bikes that are worth more than their cars, so the hotel is also making a selection of rooms “bike-friendly”, meaning guests are welcome to bring their bike into the room, (road bikes only).
All guests have access to free outdoor, off-street parking improving access for those who are towing bikes on trailers or on bike racks. Club Croc Hotel is in close proximity to a specialist bike repair and gear shops and is also situated close to Airlie Beach's major bike paths and trails.
Jeff Aquilina, Executive Director of Whitsunday Marketing Development applauded the hotel's initiative saying that, “tourism operators that are prepared to deliver extra services that target these high-income, high spend visitors are helping to support this growth market for our destination.”
Visitors staying in Airlie Beach enjoy unprecedented access to a number of world-class trails. Club Croc Hotel itself is located within just one kilometre of the Conway National Park, home to the Conway Circuit (previously called Whitsunday Great Walk); a 28km point-to-point (1-6) multi-purpose trail open to mountain bikers and hikers.
This park includes the rainforest-clad Conway Peninsula and protects the largest area of lowland tropical rainforest in Queensland outside Tropical North Queensland. Rugged, steep, rocky cliffs provide a spectacular 35 km-long backdrop to the Whitsunday Passage and islands.
From the Brandy Creek end of the park, visitors can ride the green (grade 2) trails down to Impulse creek taking in a trail which is approximately 10km long. This trail is described as perfect for those mountain bike riders looking for some “fast, flowing fun!”

After speaking with various cycling clubs in the region, including the Whitsundays Mountain Bike Club we decided to make it easier for people to bring their bikes to Club Croc, and use the hotel as a base from which to explore our region's world-class tracks and trails”.
