Gold Coast Airport Marathon

Gold Coast
More than 25,000 people from around the world are set to participate in 2015 and lap up the magnificent running climate, as well as the flat, fast and beautiful course that runs alongside the Pacific Ocean.

The Gold Coast Airport Marathon is held annually in one of the most popular holiday destinations in the world. It is Australia’s premier road race and was the first marathon in the country to hold an International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Road Race Gold Label.

The event is held on the first weekend of July and attracts more than 27,000 participants of all ages and abilities across a number of races including the Gold Coast Airport Marathon, Wheelchair Marathon, ASICS Half Marathon, Wheelchair 15km, Southern Cross University 10km Run, Suncorp Bank 5.7km Challenge and Junior Dash 4km and 2km races.

The 37th annual Gold Coast Airport Marathon will be held Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 July 2015.

Some famous features of the Gold Coast Airport Marathon include:
  • Fast, flat and scenic course
The marathon course runs next to the Gold Coast’s surf beaches and broadwater and has a reputation as one of the flattest and fastest courses in the world. It’s ideal if you’re striving for a personal best time.
  • International status
The Gold Coast Airport Marathon is a member of AIMS (Association of International Marathons and Road Races), Athletics Australia and is an International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Road Race Gold Label event.
  • Australia Marathon Championships host
The Gold Coast Airport Marathon hosted the Australian Marathon Championships in 2014 and crowned both the men’s and women’s national champion along with a state or territory based teams champion.

The weather conditions in July on the Gold Coast are traditionally great for running. There is low humidity, little or no wind in the morning and mild temperatures.

Finishers are rewarded for their personal achievement with a commemorative medal, shirt and certificate. They’re collectors’ items for those who come back from year-to-year or travel to running events around the world.

Ambassadors of the event include Australian running legends and sub 2:10 marathon runners Rob de Castella, Steve Moneghetti, Lee Troop and Pat Carroll, and there are many opportunities to meet them over the weekend.
