Two new video art exhibitions on the Chao Phrayas Ferry Gallery

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is proud to support two new exhibitions being hosted this month by Bangkok’s innovative art space the ‘Ferry Gallery’, which has its home in one of Bangkok’s river ferries taking passengers and tourists between the Tha Thien and Wat Arun Piers.

Since its opening in January 2014, TAT has been promoting the Ferry Gallery created with the aim of bringing displays of inspiring art to travellers on Bangkok’s Chao Phraya River. (TAT presents ‘The Ferry Gallery’ contemporary public art space on the River of Kings)

Now in its second year, the Ferry Gallery has scheduled a series of exciting new exhibitions with the first two events being launched this month.

The first of this month’s exhibitions is the International Experimental Video Art Expo ‘Liquid Identities’, which features work by international artists. The show is a collaboration between the Ferry Gallery and International Art Expo founded by Italian Architect Luca Curci, who is also curator of this event. On display from 7 to 14 March, 2015, the works explore different facets of social physical and cultural identities in contemporary society.

Another exhibition, titled ‘A Way with It All’ will open on 20 March and run till 30 June. Created by Australian artist Melanie Jayne Taylor, the video art looks at the changing nature of archives and archiving as a never-ending process in a world where we create ever more information and art. The video work shows the artist trying to physically let go of old work by pushing a box of photos out to sea.

Mr. Thawatchai Arunyik, Governor of TAT said, “We are proud to help promote these fascinating new shows that allow tourists and locals travelling on the Chao Phraya to experience the best in modern video art from around the world in one of Asia’s most original gallery spaces. What’s more, they’ll enjoy some of Thailand’s own artistic and gems; such as, Wat Arun as the Ferry Gallery traverses the river.”

The two exhibitions at Ferry Gallery are part of a drive by the space’s founder artist Thai and entrepreneur Kawita Vatanajyankur to promote Bangkok’s art scene and bring the best of international contemporary art to Thailand. Her Ferry Gallery is a working cross river ferry that takes passengers and art lovers between Tha Thien Pier and Wat Arun Pier, from 17.00 – 19.00 hrs. daily.
