Jamie Oliver to cook up a storm at the Sydney Royal Easter Show

As dawn breaks on day one of the Sydney Royal Easter Show (the Show), the animal pavilions awake and Sydney Royal competitions hit top gear with a special focus on cattle, young auctioneers and baked goods.

Jamie Oliver to cook up a storm

Food lovers will flock to the AWW Theatre Kitchen, with special guest Jamie Oliver heating things up in the Woolworths Fresh Food Dome from 11:10-11:50am.

He will be recreating his Pan-Cooked Giant Prawns with Snow Peas and Butter Beans, one of his latest Cook & Save recipes, available at any Woolworths.

The Dome will again be brimming with new displays, new exhibitors and delicious produce to sample and purchase, ranging from oysters, wine, chocolate, nuts, bakery treats and much more.

Young Auctioneers prep their vocal chords

The best young auctioneers from around the country will converge on the Show today to compete in the 2015 ALPA National Young Auctioneers Competition.

In its 25th year, the competition will be held at the Big Top Amphitheatre kicking off at 12pm.

This year will be the first time the competition will be live streamed. If you can’t make it to Sydney to catch the action, make sure you tune into the livestream at the following link: www.theland.com.au/pages/sydney-show.

Woolworths and private butchers from all over the state will be at the Young Auctioneers competition in the hopes of picking up some purebred, prize winning beef. Be sure to keep an eye out for the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW blue ribbon hanging in a butcher shop near you in the weeks to come.

Battle of the baked goods

While some may be tempted to lick the bowl, those in the know suppress their sweet tooth at one of the most fiercely contested competitions at the Show.

The Perishable Cooking Judging takes place from 1pm in the Arts & Crafts Pavilion, and competitors know not to expect any leniency with esteemed judges at the helm.

With almost 500 entries, seasoned performers and newer bakers alike will be giving the oven mitts a good workout in preparation for the big day.
