TOSS THE CABER – BRAEMAR GATHERING 200

2015 will be the 200th anniversary of the Braemar Gathering, one of the most famous of Scotland's traditional Highland Games, and an event the British Royal Family like to attend.

The Braemar Royal Highland Society was born quietly and in humble circumstances in 1815.

It has gathered momentum and gained the royal seal of approval and is a display of what makes Scotland's culture so rich and unique, complete with games like 'tossing the caber' (throwing a huge, heavy pole), the Tug of War and Highland Dancing – plus plenty of bagpipes!

Every Gathering is a memorable occasion and that of 2015 will be no exception.

In 2015 we will celebrate our bicentenary with the March of the Atholl and Lonach Highlanders.

International athletes will be among those taking part in the "heavy" and "track" events.

Pipers and dancers will be of the usual high standard while teams from H.M. Forces will compete in the InterServices Unit Tug of War Championship and in the Services Medley Relay Race.

A Hill Race will again be run up Morrone and Scottish Pipe Bands will be to the fore with the customary Massed Pipe Bands appearing.

The Gathering, always held on the first Saturday in September, is world famous for its friendship and hospitality which we look forward to sharing with many visitors to our Park beneath.
