Celebrate Christmas on Christmas Island All Year Round

Christmas Island
Christmas Island Air has commenced a weekly flight between Kuala Lumpur and Christmas Island chartering a Firefly B737-400 - Firefly is a subsidiary of Malaysian Airlines

"This is a huge boost to tourism," says Ms Linda Cash, of the Christmas Island Tourism Association, referring to the new air service to the tropical Australian island.

The timing couldn't be better for Christmas Island, an Australian Territory located 300km to the south-west of the Indonesian Island of Java, having just featured in the television series the 'Best of Australia.'

"Being labeled as the 'Best of Australia' and featuring on cover of Australian Geographic has led to a significant increase in nature-lovers wanting to witness our amazing nature - the crab migration, the whalesharks, the seabirds," exclaims Ms Cash.

"This northern flight direct from one of the busiest airports in Asia means that people who have only ever dreamt of traveling to our shores can finally explore these natural wonders," says Ms Cash, who adds, "the island's tourism industry is gearing up for a busy six months."

Forward-bookings for the Christmas Island's iconic Bird n' Nature Week (1 - 8 September) indicates it's likely to be the biggest ever. Then come November/December, the island comes alive (literally!) with the annual migration millions of red crabs which was recently named by Sir David Attenborough, as one of his top ten nature experiences of all time.

"We'll also welcome majestic whalesharks, the world's biggest fish to our warm waters November - April," boasts Ms Cash.
