has been named as the winner of three PATA Gold Awards 2012, with the awards
ceremony taking place on April 21, 2012 at The Royale Chulan, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
during the PATA Annual Conference.
Tourism Malaysia won the coveted PATA Gold Awards 2012 in
the categories of Marketing - Primary Government Destination for its 'A Million

posters depicting orangutans, diving, Mount Kinabalu, the homestay programme,
and Siti Khadijah Market. The third award was won by the Frangipani Langkawi
Resort & Spa in the category 'Environment - Educational Programme' for the
management of its waste water system.
Experiences to Share'
Presented by the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA), the
PATA Gold Award was developed to recognise travel industry organisations
which have made outstanding contributions to successfully develop and promote
travel and tourism in Asia Pacific.
Shahrin Mokhtar, Director, Tourism Malaysia Sydney, believes
the recognition is a reflection of the innovative programs and marketing
initiatives implemented by Tourism Malaysia, to promote the country as
a premier tourist destination.
"The Tourism Malaysia marketing programme aims to
display the breadth and diversity of tourism options on offer in Malaysia. From
eco-tourism, to community-based homestay programmes, to opportunities for
adventure, and of course our beautiful beaches and cosmopolitan cities, Malaysia offers
a unique mix of experiences for travellers, and our marketing activity aims to
capture this diversity."
Resort & Spa
"In addition to our advertising, the Ministry of
Tourism has also implemented a number of unique initiatives such as the
1Malaysia Shopping Carnival, the Fabulous Food 1Malaysia culinary festival, and
the Malaysian homestay programme to bring different activities to life for
visitors to the country."
