Mick Fanning Invites the World to Discover the Southern Gold Coast

Triple World Surfing Champion and proud Gold Coaster Mick Fanning has partnered with Gold Coast Tourism to promote his home to the world.

“As you can see behind me, it's pretty amazing. We've got a great weather, some of the best beaches in the world,” Mick explains in the video, which was filmed on the golden sands of the Southern Gold Coast.

“Mick is a proud Southern Gold Coast local. He is a great ambassador, not only for the Gold Coast but for Australia,” Martin Winter, CEO of Gold Coast Tourism said. “He's also a true athlete, having overcome injury and personal tragedy to take on the world's best - and win.”

This short video is one of a suite of new clips showcasing the precincts of the Gold Coast, presented by well-known local personalities. “The videos present the diversity of the Gold Coast in a more authentic light, through the eyes of a local,” Martin added.

“The Gold Coast is in a period of transformation. Its unique evolving culture is being driven by a vibrant and creative new generation keen to embrace the city's iconic coastal lifestyle, and who better to tell that story than an impassioned local.

“In addition to Mick, we've been fortunate in working with the likes of ex-ironman and Aussie icon Trevor Hendy; prolific landscape photographer Sean Scott and lifestyle presenter Liz Cantor - all of whom are passionate about telling the real Gold Coast story,” he added.

Mick Fanning has been named World Champion three times, having taken out the coveted Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Surf League Tour in 2007, 2009 and 2013. At age 22, Mick was awarded ASP Rookie of the Year Award. Earlier this year, the three-times World Surfing Champion made news when he was attacked by the great white, while competing in the final round of the J-Bay open in South Africa. With the 2015 WSL World Tour currently underway, Mick is again in a position to make a run at the crown, currently holding the top spot in the Men's ranking.
