Bindi Dances for the Sunshine Coast as She Goes for Gold on US Dancing With the Stars

The Sunshine Coast's Bindi Irwin will be facing the biggest challenge of her life as she competes in the final of the US 'Dancing with the Stars' on Monday and Tuesday nights (US time).

Bindi, daughter of Australia Zoo founder Steve Irwin and a force in its current operation, is down to the final four after eight gruelling weeks of preliminary rounds, during which she captured the imagination of millions of American viewers.

The Sunshine Coast has rallied behind her efforts, and the team at Sunshine Coast Destination (SCDL) has posted a 'Go Bindi' video to show her that everyone back home is wishing her success for the finals.

The Go Bindi video can be viewed at https://youtu.be/JXfS87rSeOQ. Messages can also be posted to Bindi via #TeamCrikey, her official 'Dancing with the Stars' hashtag.

“She's one of Queensland's and the Sunshine Coast's greatest global ambassadors and to compete at such a high level against incredibly talented competition shows the sort of drive and personality that she has,” says Sunshine Coast Destination CEO, Simon Ambrose.

“She has consistently spruiked the Sunshine Coast during her performances, and with Americans' love of Australian wildlife and nature, and Bindi's earthy, genuine character, her impact has been incredible.

“The Americans have already fallen in love with her, and we couldn't be more proud of her achievements.

“Obviously she has had to overcome great adversity with her father's death, but she has shown her incredible tenacity and talent with her contribution to Australia Zoo and its development, and now in the totally new field of competitive dancing.

“We're certainly all on #TeamCrikey and we urge everyone in the region and across Australia to get behind Bindi and her dancing partner, Derek Hough, and show their support. Go Bindi!”

Bindi will be competing against against former Backstreet Boy Nick Carter, soldier Alek Skarlatos and actor Carlos PenaVega.
