Mt Buller Breaks the Ice: 10,000 Cubic Metres of Snow and Counting

Mt Buller
Snow Factories Working Overtime to Deliver a Winter Wonderland

Winter is well and truly on the horizon at Mt Buller, where the snowmaking team has already crafted over 10,000 cubic metres of snow—enough to fill four Olympic-sized swimming pools. Thanks to round-the-clock snow production since 31 April, the resort is guaranteeing top-to-bottom skiing and snowboarding for the long weekend, setting the stage for an epic season opener.

Bourke Street Transforms with Towering Snowbanks

One of the resort’s most popular runs, Bourke Street, is now flanked by snow piles reaching up to five storeys high. While the first natural snowfall of the season arrived this week, it's the reliable snowmaking that’s giving guests the confidence to lock in early season plans. Whether Mother Nature cooperates or not, Mt Buller will be covered in white.

Opening Weekend Buzz and Olympian Encounters

There’s more than just snow to get excited about. Opening weekend celebrations promise a lively atmosphere, with meet-and-greets featuring winter Olympians, including Mt Buller’s own Olympic gold medallist Jakara Anthony. Guests can also take sightseeing chairlift rides to the upper mountain for stunning alpine views.

For those curious about what keeps a snow resort humming, exclusive behind-the-scenes tours will give season members a rare look inside the machinery workshops, snowmaking systems, and pump houses that make the mountain tick.

Honouring 75 Years of Ski Patrol

This year also marks a special milestone: the 75th anniversary of Mt Buller’s dedicated Ski Patrol. Known for their iconic red jackets and tireless work to keep the slopes safe, these mountain heroes will be recognised throughout the season, starting with the very first chair ride of winter.

With a strong snow base already in place and plenty of celebrations planned, Mt Buller is setting the benchmark for early season excitement in the Australian Alps.
